Job Summary
The subject position is located in the D.C. Department of Corrections, Central Detention Facility; Deputy Warden for Programs, Residential Substance Abuse Treatment Program (RSAT) is established for the purpose of reducing criminal behavior among offenders committed to the District of Columbia Department of Corrections (DOC). The subject position provides individualized treatment for alcoholics and drug addicts committed to the Department of Corrections; further providing a transitional base for the reintegration of offenders from the institution and/or the courts to the at-large community. Goals of the RSAT Program are to provide a therapeutic community environment infused with clinical activity; to facilitate the development of positive coping skills and pro-social behaviors necessary for successful recovery; to foster restricting of thoughts and behavior during the Residential Substance Abuse Treatment (RSAT) and aftercare phases of the program that lead to reduction of dysfunctional behavior during incarceration and the reduction of drug recidivist activities. This position is located in the department's Correctional Treatment Facility located at 1901 "E" Street, Southeast, Washington, DC.
Duties And Responsibilities
Incumbent provides individualized therapeutic drug and alcohol treatment, and multidimensional assessments of participant needs, specialized holistic treatment plans and interventions; didactic interactive workshop formats for large group lecture presentations, small group treatment experiences, and other relevant auxiliary services. Must have knowledge of a variety of sociological work techniques to assist individuals in gaining insight and understanding of personal problems.
Will facilitate the phycho-educational and extracurricular therapeutic activities for participants in the program. They will also assist in developing individual treatment plans, monitoring therapeutic process and preparing progress reports. Plans and performs both individual and group counseling. Maintains follow-up on assigned residents through their participation in the program. Develops and complete individual discharge plan to include linkage to comprehensive aftercare program. The incumbent carries out assignments independently exercising a high degree of initiative and judgement. Must display skill and diplomacy when communicating with concerned family members and correctional officials.

Degree: Behavioral or social science, or related disciplines appropriate to the position

Four years of appropriate experience
In addition, this position requires Specialized Experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related tothe work of the position to be filled. To be creditable, one (1) year of specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression.
Licensures and Certification
A valid driver's license is required.
At time of application must have proof of certification as Addictions Counselor Level I,II,
Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC)
Licensed Social Worker

Work is performed in an office environment in the boundaries of a correctional institution with inmate contact.

Collective Bargaining Unit: This position is in the collective bargaining unit represented by the Fraternal Order of Police.
Position Designation: This position is designated as a Safety Sensitive position and is subject to mandatory pre-employment and periodic Criminal Background Checks and Traffic Records Checks (as applicable). This position is also subject to mandatory pre-employment and random Drug and Alcohol Testing. In this position, you may be disqualified from employment based on the presence of marijuana in test results, even if you possess a medical card authorizing the use of medical marijuana.
