Brief Job Description (essential Functions Of The Job)
Under the direction of the Fleet Manager and Superintendent, the Heavy Motor Equipment Repairperson is responsible for examining and locating mechanical defects in a variety of heavy and special motor equipment such as power shovels, cranes, wrecker trucks, heavy tractor trailers and other earth moving equipment.
Responsibilities
- Disassembles, repairs or replaces work parts; fits new parts and adjusts engines, oil, water and fuel pumps, carburetors, fuel injectors, etc.
- Operates welding equipment to fabricate, rebuild and strengthen parts and pieces of equipment.
- Maintains records of time and materials used on each job.
- Adjusts and repairs air brakes, carburetors, hydraulic pumps, cylinder heads, valves and similar components of all types of heavy motor equipment.
- Overhauls engines, transmissions and ignition systems and replaces damaged parts.
- Answers road calls and makes repairs either at the road site or in the garage.
- Makes minor adjustments and repairs to all types of equipment.
- Must have ability to use wrecker truck for towing if necessary.
- Performs related work as required.
Employee is required to work any emergency as directed by the Commissioner of Parks or his/her designee.
Minimum Entrance Qualifications
- Two (2) years of paid full-time experience in maintenance and repair of gasoline and diesel driven equipment.
- Valid Massachusetts Commercial Driver's License required.
- Must be able to obtain a valid Hoisting License.
- Must have own tools.
- Ability to exercise good judgment and focus on detail as required by the job.
Must be able to work any assigned shift.
