Overview
The Age Strong Shuttle Driver provides door-to-door transportation service to Boston’s older adults. The Driver is responsible for providing prompt, courteous and safe transit to passengers while following traffic laws, and pre-scheduled routes.
Responsibilities
- Provide door-to-door transportation service to Boston’s older adults.
- Utilize navigation technology to follow the most optimal route.
- Follow directions and adjust to day-of schedule changes; maintain an organized travel schedule.
- Carry out daily maintenance checks and report irregularities.
- Record and report accurate daily counts of mileage and other data.
- Ensure the assigned vehicle is sufficiently fueled and always ready for use.
- Assist clients with mobility limitations or challenges, assist with wheelchair securement, loading and unloading bags, etc.
- Keep vehicle clean and free of debris. Take vehicle for routine maintenance wash. Report when vehicle is in need of detailing service to maintain interior and exterior cleanliness.
- Flexible schedule as some nights and weekends are required.
- Assist with Commission events as needed.
- Comply with the City of Boston policies and procedures protecting client information and the confidentiality of the information.
- Perform related work as required.
Minimum Entrance Qualifications
- Minimum of three (3) years of proven driving experience serving the public, including those with limited mobility.
- High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) is required.
- Customer service experience preferred.
- Strong work ethic. Punctual with a strong attendance history.
- Knowledge of first aid & CPR preferred.
- Knowledge of Boston roads, traffic laws and regulations, and attentive use of defensive driving techniques.
- Ability to operate wheelchair lifts.
- Familiarity with the use of GPS devices.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to operate a variety of vehicle types.
- Ability to remain calm in stressful driving situations.
- Experience and comfortability working with diverse communities, delivering services to a multiracial, multigenerational, multicultural, and multilingual population.
- Professional, adaptable, and friendly attitude.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Problem-solving ability.
- Ability to exercise good judgment and focus on detail as required by the job.
- Experience in typical office software systems (Microsoft Office Suite or equivalent) preferred.
- Bilingual preferred.
- A valid Mass driver’s license is required.
- Excellent driving record (applicant must provide an official driving record from the Registry of Motor Vehicles).
- Physical examination is required, including a pre-employment drug test.
