The Accounts Payable Specialist utilizes principles of accounting to interpret and analyze the expenditure processing based on the Oregon Accounting Manual (OAM), Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and statewide policies. The Enterprise Goods and Services Division (EGS) offers centralized services to state government. EGS services are provided through operational programs which include Shared Financial Services (SFS), Financial Business Systems, Procurement Services, Publishing & Distribution, and Risk Management.
In This Role You Will
- Provide guidance, direction and assistance to DAS and various customers regarding the appropriate accounts payable operations for compliance policies.
- Resolves errors, balances accounts, ensures data integrity, and monitors fiscal activities.
- Examine, analyze, and interpret multiple account and fund coding, and makes accurate accounts payable system entries.

Please note this position will require 6 months on-site training. Upon completion of training, the position has the option of hybrid remote working schedule with a minimum of 2 set days a week on-site in the Salem office. What Are We Looking For?
Minimum Qualifications
- Two years of experience calculating, recording, and maintaining accounting information that must include coding transactions and checking them for propriety, balancing, and resolving discrepancies in computer edits; OR,
- One year of experience calculating, recording, and maintaining accounting information that must include coding transactions and checking them for propriety, balancing, and resolving discrepancies in computer edits AND at least 43 quarter (29 semester) credit hours from an accredited college, university, or vocational-technical school that includes 9 quarter (6 semester) credit hours in accounting. Credit hours must include introductory level accounting courses 1 and 2; OR,
- At least 94 quarter (62 semester) credit hours or an associate degree from an accredited college, university, or vocational-technical school that includes 12 quarter (8 semester) credit hours in accounting. Credit hours must include introductory level accounting courses 1 and 2 and may include any additional accounting courses with “accounting” in the title.
Note: Training or experience must include using a computer to enter, update, or retrieve information.
Desired Attributes
- Experience in R*Stars.
- Understanding of governmental accounting policies.
- Knowledge and understanding of the Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Ability to conduct analysis, identify problems, and identify areas of improvement.
- Ability to manage and complete work independently and timely.
- A willingness to learn new systems and procedures, remain current in software applications, and collaborate.
