POSITION SUMMARY:

As a Security Guard at the Royal Ontario Museum (ROM), you are committed to providing superior proactive and reactive security services. With a steadfast focus on the safety and security of our employees, visiting public, artifacts, and facilities, you play a crucial role in maintaining the overall well-being of our esteemed institution. Utilizing tact and diplomacy, you skillfully defuse high-tension situations that could jeopardize the safety of ROM employees and the public. Your conduct not only safeguards employee-employer relations but also upholds the sterling reputation of our organization.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensure the safety and security of the museum by monitoring and operating Alarms, CCTV, & Access Control systems.
  • Act as the control center for the museum by having a working knowledge of control room duties and functions such as dispatching, access control systems, and the use of CCTV.
  • Maintain the integrity of the museum's security systems by conducting alarm response and investigation as required.
  • Protect the museum's assets by conducting regular patrols and/or patrolling assigned galleries to deter criminal activities.
  • Maintain order and safety during museum events and exhibits by performing crowd control duties as required.
  • Ensure the safety of visitors and employees by conducting parcel and package inspections.
  • Conduct detailed investigations and report all findings and recommendations regarding incidents or accounts that occur on ROM property, including infractions of any applicable federal, provincial, and municipal laws or ROM Policies and Procedures.
  • Respond promptly and efficiently to emergency or non-emergency calls; assess the situation and liaise with emergency services as necessary.
  • Contribute to the overall security of the museum by performing other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Hold a Law Enforcement/Police Foundations Diploma or degree.
  • Possess at least one (1) year of relevant security experience or equivalent education.
  • Hold a valid Ontario Security Guards License in good standing, in accordance with PSIS Act at the time of application.
  • Hold First Aid and CPR Level “C” and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) Certification at the time of application.
  • Possess valid Smart Serve certification at the time of hire.
  • Have knowledge and previous experience using CCTV/Fire Panel/Access Control Systems.
  • Familiarity with emergency and evacuation procedures.
  • Possess excellent conflict resolution skills.
  • Experience in hospitality settings is an asset.
  • Physical fitness is essential, as the job requires standing for long periods.
  • Good interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate verbally and in writing effectively.
  • Must work with a high degree of honesty and integrity.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and electronic mail.
  • Working knowledge of operational security procedures.
  • Must have Green Patch safety footwear, always worn while on duty.

SALARY & TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

START DATE: ASAP

OPEN DATE: August 21, 2024

CLOSE DATE: September 6, 2024

STATUS: Full-time Permanent

EMPLOYEE GROUP: SEIU, Local 2

SALARY/HOURLY RATE: $21.68 - $25.52 per hour

SCHEDULE: 40 hours per week

PROBATIONARY PERIOD: 60 days

LOCATION (onsite): Toronto, ON
