The Eugene Water & Electric Board (EWEB) is currently seeking a skilled Journey Electric Meter Technician who has experience with AMI/Smart Meters.
As a member of the Electric Meter Shop, you will be on the ground floor of advancing the meter shop to new metering technology and developing new strategies and approaches as the meter shop increases technology while successfully teaching shop apprentices. The successful candidate will work in a team environment to service, test, and calibrate all single-phase and poly-phase electric watt hour, demand and recording meters (electromechanical, and electronic), instrument transformers and related test equipment. Typical responsibilities include:
- Wire primary and secondary instrument transformer watt hour and reactive metering circuits.
- Investigate customer metering and voltage complaints, vandalism, power diversion and related metering problems.
- Create computer programs for various meter types, and forms.
- Assists/trains apprentices in working on energized and de-energized systems and equipment.
- Skilled in the use of various power tools, work on ladders, rooftops and be able to operate and work from bucket trucks.
- Receive meter shipments, number meters, record information and update customer records.
- Use customer accounts and billing systems, material management system, NIIPS and other network service systems on a daily basis.
- Deploy and troubleshoot commercial & residential AMI/Smart Meters
The wage for this position is $61.95 per hour and will increase to $68.3061 on 04/13/2025 per the CBA.

Minimum Training and Experience Required:
- Minimum Experience: Six thousand hours experience as an Apprentice Electric Meter Technician.
- Education: Successful completion of a 6000-hour EWEB approved Electric Meter Technician Apprenticeship or equivalent training and experience. AMI installation experience, and continuing education is preferred.
- Desirable education, experience, training and certifications: Oregon Journey level Electrician license
- Valid driver license: Yes
- Professional license or registration: None
- Post-offer background check required: Yes
- Post-offer drug test required: Yes
- Post-offer physical / functional test required: Yes
- Apprenticeship or other education/training required as a condition of employment, progression or advancement: Must obtain a First Aid/CPR Card within 12 months of hire.
