Job Summary
Performs entry-level administrative work to support the City of Lake Worth Beach’s (COLWB) comprehensive building permit and planning regulations. Assists applicants and the general public with permit and plan inquiries.
Work is performed under general supervision with limited latitude in the use of initiative and independent judgment based on professional education and previous experience.

General
- Researches and prepares reports, documents, and agendas for City officials and other agencies and organizations
- Responds to building permit and plan inquiries from a variety of internal and external constituents; assists applicants in departmental area of assignment
- Prepares and executes digital formats of building plans
- Label, organize, and file building permit records, electronic plans, and other miscellaneous documents
- Process and assisting in the tracking of building permits and necessary paperwork for permits

Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED
Some college level studies in in urban or regional planning, public administration, architecture, historic preservation, or a directly related field; may be supplemented by some experience in a building and/or planning office; or an equivalent combination of education, certification, training, and/or experience.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
- Knowledge of department policies and procedures for the preparation, production and maintenance of reports, documentation and records
- Basic knowledge of federal, state, and local planning, zoning, and land use regulations, standards, and requirements governing the work
- Skill in the use of Microsoft Office products (Word, Outlook, and Excel) and applicable department/organization specific software and ability to learn and become proficient in the use of other specialized software as may be required
- Ability to clearly communicate and understand information in English, both orally and in writing
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions
- Ability to measure and perform mathematical computations applicable to the work
- Ability to provide exceptional internal and external customer service
- Ability to manage multiple priorities to ensure that deadlines are met
- Ability to make sound assessments and recommendations based on research
- Ability to correctly interpret and efficiently implement all applicable policies and procedures
- Ability to use reasoning skills that minimize duplication of efforts, including but not limited to comparing, classifying, analyzing and coordinating

Physical Requirements
Depending on functional area of assignment, tasks involve the ability to exert light physical effort usually involving some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of light weight (up to 50 pounds). May involve some climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, walking or standing. Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or workstation and extended periods of time standing and/or walking.
Environmental Requirements
Tasks are regularly performed inside without potential for exposure to adverse conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, fumes and/or poor ventilation, wetness, humidity, rain, temperature and noise extremes, machinery and/or moving vehicles, vibrations, electric currents, animals/wildlife, toxic/poisonous agents, gases or chemicals, oils and other cutting fluids, violence and/or disease, or pathogenic substances.
Sensory Requirements
Some tasks require manual dexterity, in addition to visual and hearing acuity. Some tasks may involve identifying and distinguishing colors. Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally and in writing.

This position is considered “essential personnel” for hurricane preparedness and emergency management purposes.
Furthermore, most of the job classifications within the City of Lake Worth workforce are covered by Collective Bargaining Agreements with the Public Employees Union (PEU), Professional Managers and Supervisors Association (PMSA), or International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW). Consistent with Chapter 447 of the Florida Statutes, a bargaining unit employee has the right to join or not join the union. However, the Union is not obligated to represent a non-member.
