Produce Staff (Wedge Lyndale)

Purpose: To receive and stock produce and maintain produce area while providing prompt, friendly customer service.

REPORTS TO: Produce Manager

Essential Functions

  • Trim, wash, bundle and stock produce. Replenish and rotate produce displays, culling several times daily. Dispose of damaged or spoiled goods promptly, recording them on spoilage sheets. Follow priorities set by Produce management.
  • Receive and check incoming product for quality and verify piece count and prices. Sign, with date, for deliveries with appropriate adjustments to invoices and communicate credits to vendor. Help with unloading as needed.
  • Maintain cleanliness of produce sales floor, prep, and storage areas by removing trash, cleaning cases, wiping surfaces, picking up, etc.
  • Assist customers with questions and special orders. Offer samples and suggestions for purchase and preparation in friendly, courteous manner. Respond knowledgeably to customer questions about coop policies and products and refer customers to other employees/resources as needed. Convey approachable presence on the sales floor.
  • Work in a safe manner, following safety procedures.
  • Attend Produce department meetings and communicate regularly with Produce staff to ensure department cohesion and customer satisfaction. Read department log book at the beginning of every shift. Advise Produce management immediately of equipment repair needs.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned by Produce management.

Qualifications

Experience

  • Some experience with produce in retail, wholesale, or farm setting
  • At least one year's experience with produce in retail setting (preferred)
  • Demonstrated ability to work with customers and coworkers from diverse cultural backgrounds
  • Ability to work with TCCP to create an inclusive environment where all are welcomed

Skills

  • Demonstrated customer service skills, including ability to project friendly, outgoing presence
  • Demonstrated ability to work well with others in fast-paced team environment (preferred)
  • Demonstrated ability to be flexible in the face of changing priorities (preferred)

Knowledge

  • Knowledge of produce sufficient to educate customers about our products and promote satisfaction with their selections (preferred)

Essential Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift 50 lbs. repeatedly
  • Ability to work for extended periods under cold, wet conditions
  • Prolonged standing and walking on the sales floor
  • Ability to perform continuous fine work with hands
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
