San Mateo Medical Center (SMMC) is seeking a qualified ABPP eligible Clinical Neuropsychologist.

Currently we have one vacancy for a full-time (1.0 FTE), Neuropsychologist, with flexible schedule to work at San Mateo Medical Center.

San Mateo Medical Center (SMMC) is seeking qualified licensed ABPP eligible or board certifiedneuropsychologists with expertise working with a diverse adult and geriatric patient populations. Referrals for culturally sensitive evaluations and inpatient consultations come from primary care, psychiatry and specialty clinics. Referral reasons are related to acquired brain injury (TBI), cognitive issues d/t neurological/medical conditions (e.g., HIV/AIDS, cardiovascular disease/stroke, etc.), dementia and MCI, and psychiatric vs. neurodegenerative disease differential diagnosis. Occasional requests for capacity evaluations may be needed that involve self-neglect due to cognitive impairment, financial abuse, and/or placement. Many of our patients do not speak English and may have less than 6 years of education and/or undiagnosed learning differences. Common languages include, but are not limited to, Spanish, Tagalog, Arabic, Mandarin, and Cantonese. Medical interpreters are utilized to provide services. Bilingual proficiency in Spanish is preferred but not required for this position. The neuropsychologist may also be asked to provide consultation to primary care providers, psychiatrists, and psychologists.

Licensed Neuropsychologists fulfill the following duties and responsibilities:

Perform comprehensive neuropsychological evaluations with English- and non-English-speaking adults and seniors with complex medical and psychiatric histories and cognitive symptoms in inpatient and outpatient settings.
Conduct clinical and collateral interviews regrading patient cognitive concerns within HIPAA framework.
Review medical records prior to conducting evaluations as appropriate for referrals.
Work with medical interpreters in conducting evaluations for bilingual and monolingual non-English speaking patients.
Triage and manage neuropsychology referrals within electronic health record.
Write integrated neuropsychological reports to document findings of test results within EHR and communicate findings to referral sources and patients.
Communicate by phone and email with various referral sources, to obtain collateral information from caregivers within framework of HIPPA and EHR.
Maintaining psychological and neuropsychological test protocols within hospital record keeping system (with assistance from medical records as appropriate) by following APA ethical guidelines.
Provide consultation to inpatient and outpatient providers regarding decision making capacity for medical or financial decisions, recommending levels of care (this may include Adult Protective Services and Aging and Adult Services)
Develop and maintain cultural competence in working with patients from a variety of different language, cultural considerations and especially various educational backgrounds through continuing training and consultation of research
May provide clinical supervision to neuropsychology supplemental practicum trainees and/or postdoctoral fellows.
Other duties as assigned.

In addition to the license requirements specified below, the selected candidates will possess qualifications that include:

Familiarity in working with medical interpreters in assessment (preferred).
Previous clinical responsibilities to include neuropsychological testing and diagnosis.
Eligible for board certification by the American Board of Professional Psychology (ABPP).
2 years (2000 hours minimum) formal post-doctoral training in neuropsychology.
Bilingual Spanish speaker (preferred, but not required).
Qualified to supervise psychology postdoctoral fellows.
Knowledge of social service agencies, state regulations, and APA standards as they relate to client treatment, patient rights, and client/patient confidentiality.
Knowledge of psychological and neuropsychological testing techniques, administration, and interpretation.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to provide psychological services informed by cultural humility and the use of medical interpreters when appropriate.

The ideal candidate will also have a doctorate degree in Clinical Psychology from a regionally accredited educational institution and must have completed the required trainings related to providing clinical supervision. Possession of a California license in Clinical Psychology is required for this position, however candidates who have passed the EPPP exam and are in the process of receiving a California license in Clinical Psychology within a 90-day period may be considered in this recruitment but will not be able to start the position until license is obtained. Starting salary is negotiable, depending on experience, and includes a biweekly bilingual differential pay added to the hourly base pay, for bilingual Spanish positions. The incumbent will work with adult populations (Option 1), as described below.

Qualifications

Licensure/Certification: California license in Clinical Psychology.

Education and Experience: Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to qualify is:

Option 1: Adult - Two years of clinical experience with adults.

Current County of San Mateo and County of San Mateo Superior Court of California employees with at least six months (1040 hours) of continuous service in a classified regular, probationary, Confidential and Management extra-help/limited term , and SEIU or AFSCME represented extra help/limited term positions prior to the final filing date w ill receive five points added to their final passing score on this examination.

The examination process will consist of an application screening (weight: pass/fail) based on the candidates' application and responses to the supplemental questions. Candidates who pass the application screening will be invited to a panel interview (weight: 100%). Depending on the number of applicants, an application appraisal of education and experience may be used in place of other examinations or further evaluation of work experience may be conducted to group applicants by level of qualification . All applicants who meet the minimum qualifications are not guaranteed advancement through any subsequent phase of the examination. All examinations will be given in San Mateo County, California and applicants must participate at their own expense.
