ACCOUNTING TECHNICIAN

Starting Salary: $55,344; Grade: B-11

This position is open to the public and all current city employees covered under the City’s Collective Bargaining Agreement with AMERICAN FEDERATION OF STATE, COUNTY, AND MUNICIPAL EMPLOYEES (AFSCME) – BARGAINING UNIT 1, 3, 4 & 5. Only employees in City job titles in this bargaining unit are eligible to bid.

Under supervision, performs paraprofessional accounting and auditing duties; and performs related duties as required
Essential Duties
- Enters, research, complies, analyze, and retrieves statistical and other data to prepare voucher for payment and administrative reports
- Create, maintain, and updates databases, spreadsheets, files and records accurately using various software
- Review and analyzes vouchers and supporting documents to ensure payments are received, processed, tracked and attached for comptroller
- Reviews program contracts, budgets and budget amendments, and revisions for conformance to federal, state, and local government accounting requirements
- Order and maintain materials and supplies and resolves problems with vendors
- Respond to inquiries or complaints from the public and explains departmental policies
- Audits vouchers submitted for reimbursement by examining contracts, budgets, balance sheets and other documents to determine if costs are allowable
- Prepares trial balances or periodic summary statements to verify the equality of debits and credits or to determine account balances
- Provides technical assistance on the preparation of documents for reimbursement to contractors, subcontractors or other agencies
- Maintains control ledgers, prepares routine financial reports and approves vouchers for payment
- May assist in preparing departmental program and operating budgets
- Interprets contract provisions in order to identify allowable and non-allowable expenditures
- Calculates totals and determines the appropriateness of supporting documentation
- Resolves problems regarding budget limitations, allocations, or modifications and prepares necessary documentation
- May assist in preparing departmental program and operating budgets

LOCATION: 2 North LaSalle, Ste 1020 & 1120
HOURS: 8:30 am – 4:30 pm, Monday – Friday

Minimum Qualifications
Two (2) years of Data entry and auditing experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience

Selection Requirements
This position requires applicants to complete an interview. The interviewed candidate(s) possessing the qualifications best suited to fulfill the responsibilities of the position, based on the oral interview will be selected.
Preference Will Be Given To Candidates Possessing The Following
- Previous work experience with FMPS/Oracle, shared point
- Previous work experience analyzing financial transactions and making original or adjusting entries
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel
- Previous work experience auditing and processing voucher payments
- Previous work experience in customer service
