This position is included in a bargaining unit of Housing Works’ New York City employees represented by a labor union known as the Retail Wholesale and Department Store Union (“RWDSU”). Accordingly, the RWDSU has the exclusive right to bargain over the terms and conditions of employment related to this position and this position may become covered by the terms of a collective bargaining agreement (a “CBA”) between Housing Works and the RWDSU
Overview
The Housing Works Emergency & Transitional Housing Program (ETH) provides time limited transitional housing and support services to individuals reentering the community following periods of incarceration or other justice system involvement. Program participants engage in a variety of onsite services, including case management, vocational training, housing advocacy and mental health support that address barriers to accessing housing in the community and help build skills that participants can use to achieve and maintain stable functioning in the community. The Fresh Meadows ETH Program site is specifically designed to provide transitional housing for individuals with substance use, mental health diagnoses or chronic medical conditions. To address these higher level of care needs, this site offers onsite medical, behavioral health and psychiatric services.
The Residential Aid ensures the wellbeing and safety of the program’s participants, staff and physical environment. Overall responsibilities include engaging in crisis intervention as needed, conducting wellness checks, engaging in facility walk throughs and perimeter checks, room inspections, minor custodial maintenance activities and maintaining program records and reporting functions. The program maintains 24/7, 365 days per year of onsite residential aid services. This Residential Aide position is for Thursday to Monday, 8:00 am to 4:00 pm.
Primary
Responsibilities:
- Ensures program policies and regulations are adhered to by program participants and staff.
- Ensures the safety, security and integrity of the program for all participants, staff and physical environment of the facility.
- Conducts wellness checks for all participants in accordance to the program’s standards and best practices.
- Conducts periodic building walkthroughs and perimeter checks.
- Provides excellent customer service to program participants, staff, vendors and volunteers.
- Distributes meals to program participants and assists with appropriately packing and storing food items in accordance with regulations.
- Conduct timely room turn over and room inspection activities.
- Maintains and updates program data and documents timely.
- Ensures all program participants, staff and vendors sign in upon arrival and sign out upon departure from the program site.
- Reports maintenance repairs needed to program and hotel management.
- Communicates with the clinical team regarding important observations regarding participants’ behaviors or concerns.
- Participates in agency and program meetings as scheduled.
- Submits incident reports as needed.
- Promotes Housing Works’ core values in day to day activities.
- Performs other tasks as assigned by supervisor
Secondary
- Provide culturally competent services in accordance to Housing Works’ policies and practices.
- Engages in Housing Works’ advocacy events as required.
- Works collaboratively with other team members within the Justice Initiatives Department and cross-agency.
Other functions that may be required with this position include:
- Responsiveness to emails, texts and phone calls.
- Ability to adapt and successfully uphold job functions in a full remote workforce or hybrid in-person remote workforce environment.
