This senior executive role provides leadership and direction to Aurora Plan Units, guiding strategy, operations, and priorities to support the Fund's mission, improve efficiency, protect Fund Participants, and safeguard assets. The President serves on the UNITE HERE HEALTH Executive Leadership Team.
Essential Job Functions And Duties
- Lead, manage, and coordinate strategy and planning for Aurora functional areas:
- Clinical Affairs
- Clinical Operations and Programs
- HospitalityRx and Pharmacy Oversight
- Data Analytics and Engineering
- Medical Cost Management
- Health Center Oversight
- Operations
- Internal and external Communications including web presence
- Claims processing (new day and adjustments) as well as plan building for plan benefits
- Member Services for members and providers
- Contributions & Enrollments for plan employers and members including PPO, Kaiser and Tufts
- Healthcare Delivery
- Participant Engagement: Enroll educate, engage, and empower participants, ideally through worker leaders (Healthcare Ambassadors)
- Managed Care Contracting and Vendor Administration: Manage contracts with network carriers (e.g., BCBSIL, Horizon NJ, Tufts, Kaiser Permanente), point solutions (e.g., transplant networks, payment integrity), Health Center operators (e.g., Premise), and preferred providers/systems (e.g., Ascension in Chicago, UPenn in AC)
- Information Technology (IT)
- Architecture & Engineering (Plan & Build), Operations (Run), Security, Project & Program Management
- Collaboratively develop clear and measurable Aurora plan objectives, goals, and initiatives
- Identify, lead, and monitor initiatives to improve the financial performance and cost of care
- Improve the quality and access of care for our members
- Partner with Clinical Affairs, Operations, Healthcare Delivery, and IT teams to establish, refine, and monitor key performance and regulatory metrics across all plan functions
- Maintain a deep understanding of current national health care market trends to inform Fund strategy, operations, and performance
- Communicate and collaborate with key stakeholders, Trustees, and Union leadership to gain input and convey Fund initiatives relevant to plan finances, benefit design, and operations
- Collaborate with legal to ensure all Fund functions are compliant with ERISA and all pertinent regulations
- Work with Fund leadership and Board of Trustees to set vision, develop strategy, and define Aurora goals and collaborate with Fund executive leaders to support strategy, regulatory, and operational requirements
- Partner with Las Vegas Plan leadership and staff on areas of potential synergy and mutual concern
- By CEO appointment, serve as member of Fund’s Employee Benefits and Investment Committees for Staff Plan administration purposes
- Work with HR to oversee employment decisions, staffing, promotions, compensation, performance, talent development, succession planning, and other HR matters for assigned positions and areas
- Achieve financial goals by creating a budget, managing expenses, analyzing variances, and recommending solutions; take corrective actions as needed
- Demonstrate the Fund’s Diversity and Inclusion (D&I) principles in their conduct with employees; partner with Sr. leadership and staff to create a safe and inclusive culture with equitable opportunities for success and career growth
Essential Qualifications
- 15+ years leadership experience in a health plan environment providing a strong working knowledge and financial understanding of health benefit plans, healthcare delivery systems, pharmacy plans, managed care contracting, member engagement and education, and operational performance and systems to support the work
- 5+ years of executive-level leadership
- Strong working knowledge of operations and general administration associated with managing a health plan and ERISA benefit plans
- Strong understanding of healthcare trends and statistical measures of healthcare performance
- Familiarity with Taft-Hartley Trust Funds highly preferred
- Familiarity with benefits regulation, e.g., ERISA, DOL, IRS, COBRA, HIPAA, etc. highly preferred
- Strong business acumen, particularly in the areas of finance, information technology and operational systems, strategic planning, budgeting and project management
- Experience leading seasoned staff across a broad geography
- Seasoned experience in a managed care environment highly preferred
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or related field from an accredited institution
- Master’s degree in Public Health, Healthcare Administration, Health Plan Administration, Organizational Development, Business Administration, or related field preferred
- The ability to meet travel expectations of 15% - 25%
Salary range for this position: Salary $290,000 - $350,000. Actual base salary may vary based upon, but not limited to: relevant experience, qualifications, expertise, certifications, licenses, education or equivalent work experience, time in role, peer and market data, prior performance, business sector, and geographic location.
Work Schedule (may vary to meet business needs): Monday~Friday, 7.5 hours per day (37.5 hours per week) a hybrid working opportunity.
