Description

The City of Redding is accepting applications for the position of Account Clerk I to fill a part-time position in the Airports Administration Division.

The current position is primarily responsible for the Accounts Payable function, processing of credit card transactions, processing of various types of purchase orders. The position encompasses handling large volumes of telephone calls, processing mail, and emails as necessary typically involving accounts payable, purchase orders, and credit card processing. This position supports the finance division and staff members within the division as necessary.

The ideal candidate will be able to work heavily with Microsoft Excel Spreadsheets and verify large quantities of data for accuracy while providing excellent customer service, both at the counter and over the telephone with numerous interruptions. The ideal candidate must be flexible and be able to multi-task as job duties change often due to deadlines and unforeseen new regulations/rules.

We are looking for someone to

  • Accept and/or verify collections, receipts and other financial data.
  • Enter account information in the computer.
  • Post checks, balances, payroll entries and adjust accounts.
  • Gather, tabulate, and proofread statistical or financial data.
  • Make arithmetical calculations and check various statistical or accounting tables and reports.
  • Type reports, memorandums, letters, quotation requests and requisitions.
  • Schedule, index, and file documents and other papers.
  • Maintain departmental inventories.
  • Contact customers by verbal or written communication.
  • Maintain records.
  • Schedule use of pool vehicles and issue credit cards.
  • Communicate by radio with employees in the field.

Qualifications We're Looking For

  • Knowledge of basic accounting or bookkeeping procedures
  • Knowledge of methods, practices, and terminology used in financial and statistical record keeping
  • Knowledge of modern office procedures and practices
  • Knowledge of effective customer service skills
  • Knowledge of basic arithmetic
  • Knowledge of filing systems and procedures
  • Ability to interact effectively with the public and employees
  • Ability to post and make arithmetical calculations rapidly and accurately
  • Ability to operate calculators, cash registers, personal computers and software, including word processing and spreadsheet, and other standard office equipment
  • Ability to compare names and numbers accurately and rapidly
  • Ability to accurately perform data entry

Education, Experience, and Special Requirements:

  • Any combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying.
  • Typical education would include a high school diploma, or equivalent.
  • Typical experience would include 2-3 years in a related clerical field, which included working with the general public.

Examination Process: An online written examination will be administered. This recruitment will establish an eligibility list that may be used for current and future vacancies.

City of Redding Employees: If you took and passed the Account Clerk examination from January 2021 or later, you are not required to retest and may retain your prior score, OR, if you prefer, you may retest to receive a new score. You will not have the option of retesting and keeping the better of the two scores. Your name may remain on the eligibility list for a period of five years before you will be required to test again, unless significant changes are made to the examination. Either way, you must select the appropriate box on the supplemental question that asks to either "Retest" or "Retain" your previous score.

Final Appointment Is Contingent Upon

  • Positive past employment references
  • Passing a city paid fingerprint criminal conviction check (applicants 18 and older)
  • Passing of a pre-employment medical exam and drug and alcohol screening test

Veteran's Credit: Applicants who attach a copy of the DD-214 to their application indicating "Honorable Discharge" from military service and receive a passing score on the examination process will have two (2) additional points added to their final examination score.

Holidays

An average of thirteen and a half per year. Fire Association covered employees receive a payment in lieu of holidays. Holiday compensation for Redding Peace Officers Association and Redding Police Managers Association employees has been converted to base pay.

Vacation

Two weeks per year up to the fourth year of service, three weeks up to nine years of service, three and a half weeks up to fourteen years of service, four weeks up to nineteen years of service, four and a half weeks up to twenty-four years of service, five weeks after twenty-four years of service. For accrual rates for Fire Department shift employees, refer to MOU. Part-time and temporary employees may be eligible for some vacation/paid time off benefits.

Sick Leave

Twelve working days of sick leave are accrued each year. Unused sick leave may be credited toward retirement. For accrual rates for Fire Department shift employees, refer to MOU.

Health Insurance

Excellent medical, dental, vision, and life for employee and dependent, and long-term disability for employees.

Retirement

Full-time employees are covered by CalPERS (formula is dependent on hire date and member status in CalPERS) and are not covered under the Social Security SystemAdministrative Leave:

Management positions are eligible to receive 40 hours of administrative leave per calendar year as authorized by the department director; additional leave up to 40 hours may be granted by the City Manager.

Deferred Compensation Plans

Available for interested employees.

Union Dues: Some job classifications are represented by collective bargaining units, the employees of which may choose to join and pay union dues.

Part-Time Retirement Benefit Program

Part-time, seasonal, and full-time temporary employees either participate in the Social Security System or the PARS Alternate Retirement System depending upon bargaining unit assignment.
