Position Summary
This is a full-time, position, Monday through Friday, 8 am to 5 pm. Primary responsibilities are to collect and receipt tax payments, assist with the county’s computerized tax system, perform functions of the foreclosure process and interact with local governmental entities. Will also provide information by telephone and in person to taxpayers, banks, real estate personnel, title companies, attorneys and other interested parties concerning the tax status of Jackson County properties.

Additional Responsibilities
Some of the essential functions of this job include but are not limited to:
- As a Deputized Processing/Personal Server gives verbal notifications to property owners and/or those individuals with legal interest, of the foreclosure process per Public Act 123.
- Collects all delinquent tax payments and personal property taxes including assisting the County Treasurer with the auction process as directed.
- Processes passport applications and provides photos for both new passports and renewals.
- Issues dog licenses and sends out renewal notices monthly.
- Certifies deeds and land contracts for daily recording. Certifies there are no delinquent taxes.
Qualifications
Education: High school graduation or equivalent, prefer advanced coursework in tax laws, accounting and data processing.
Experience: Two to three years’ experience in a capacity related to tax records and tax laws in a treasurer’s office or related setting. Includes working with computerized accounting systems and spreadsheets.
Other Requirements: Valid Michigan Driver’s License.

Compensation & Benefits
This is a non-exempt bargaining unit position with AFSCME Pay Grade H, offering excellent benefits, including investment plan options, PTO accrual and paid holidays upon hire! All other benefits including use of accrued PTO and insurance (medical/prescription/dental/vision/life and disability insurance) effective following 90 days of employment and successfully passing the probationary period.

Full time employees are offered an Employer match of up to 5% in our Defined Contribution/401a Plan with voluntary contributions to our 457 Plan and greater than two times the employee contribution to our Retirement Health Savings Plan (RHS). The Employee contribution for the RHS Plan is $850 annually with an employer contribution of $1,950 annually.
