Position Description

Responsibilities

This position provides customer support services to Friend of the Court clientele, answering questions in person, by telephone, or by responding to mail and faxes. Reviews and processes court orders assuring proper actions have been taken and credit given. Provides a variety of other support services to Friend of the Court staff.

Essential Functions Include But Are Not Limited To

  • Answer personal and telephone inquiries; see clients in person on a walk-in basis. Answers procedural questions, explains medical demand process and may assist clients with paperwork. Responds to other agency inquiries (employers, Dept. of Health & Human Services, Prosecutors, County Clerk, private attorneys, judges, etc.)
  • Processes and reviews orders of the court ensuring proper actions were taken and credited.
  • Performs MiCSES reconciliation processes including preparing bank deposit and processing EFT monies, credit card payments and any other debit or credits to the FOC Child Support Bank account. Contacts bank and clients regarding NSF checks and monitors collection of same. Makes NSF referrals to Prosecuting Attorney as required.
  • Receives all payments, including bonds, from multiple sources and posts them to the computer system
  • Prepares bench warrants for LEIN.
  • Serves as a mandated reporter for CPS.

Qualifications

Education: High school graduate or equivalent. Prefer some coursework beyond high school in one or more of the following areas: data processing, accounting, human services, computer science or paralegal work.

Experience: Two to three years of experience in one or more of the following areas: accounting, data processing, human services, customer service/support, paralegal work or related area. Proficient computer and typing skills. Ability to type 45 wpm preferred.

Other Requirements: Valid Michigan Driver’s License. Ability to become a Notary Public.

Relevant Skills/Specialized Equipment Knowledge

  • Basic office equipment such as telephone, calculator, photocopier, Fax, etc.
  • Photographic, audio and video equipment.
  • Computer programs including word processing, spreadsheets, database entry and maintenance and financial applications.
  • Ability to use OnBase imaging software.
  • Ability to de-escalate situations involving highly emotional individuals.

Compensation & Benefits

This is a non-exempt, Pay Grade E, AFSCME Bargaining Unit position offering excellent benefits, including investment plan options, PTO accrual and paid holidays upon hire! All other benefits including use of accrued PTO and insurance (medical/prescription/dental/vision/life and disability insurance) effective following 90 days of employment and successfully passing the probationary period.

Full time employees are offered an Employer match of up to 5% in our Defined Contribution/401a Plan with voluntary contributions to our 457 Plan and greater than two times the employee contribution to our Retirement Health Savings Plan (RHS). The Employee contribution for the RHS Plan is $850 annually with an employer contribution of $1,950 annually.
