Patient Account Representative Responsibilities
- Answers inbound phone inquiries and place outbound calls to resolve outstanding balances.
- Works with patients to determine eligibility for Hospital programs. Initiates and processes charity application and payment plans through collection, review and completion of appropriate forms based on hospital policy.
- Answers patient’s questions regarding statements and insurance coverage.
- Telephones or writes companies with unpaid insurance claims to obtain settlement of claim.
- Effectively handles all communications, including telephone and email, from patients, and other departments within the hospital.
- Initiates collection of bad debt accounts.
- Follows departmental policies/procedures and meets deadlines and productivity standards for work files, including but not limited to:
- Managing assigned patient accounts
- Identifying accounts eligible for transfer to outside collection agencies
- Ensuring the accuracy of registration data including health insurance
- Initiating appropriate billing
- Processing patient correspondence
- Collaborating with outside collection agencies
- Effectively negotiating payment plans & settlements
- Resolving patient account credits.
- Completing necessary reports to support regulatory requirements
Job Requirements
- Minimum of one year healthcare customer service experience.
- Previous insurance experience preferred.
- Working knowledge of CPT-4 & ICD-10 coding and Medicare Review required.
