Island Health is looking for a Patient Account Representative for our Full Time Day Shift at our hospital in Anacortes, WA.

Work Schedule

  • 1.0 FTE or 40 hours per week

Salary Range: $18.71 - $27.79

Patient Account Representative Responsibilities

  • Answers inbound phone inquiries and place outbound calls to resolve outstanding balances.
  • Works with patients to determine eligibility for Hospital programs. Initiates and processes charity application and payment plans through collection, review and completion of appropriate forms based on hospital policy.
  • Answers patient’s questions regarding statements and insurance coverage.
  • Telephones or writes companies with unpaid insurance claims to obtain settlement of claim.
  • Effectively handles all communications, including telephone and email, from patients, and other departments within the hospital.
  • Initiates collection of bad debt accounts.
  • Follows departmental policies/procedures and meets deadlines and productivity standards for work files, including but not limited to:
  • Managing assigned patient accounts
  • Identifying accounts eligible for transfer to outside collection agencies
  • Ensuring the accuracy of registration data including health insurance
  • Initiating appropriate billing
  • Processing patient correspondence
  • Collaborating with outside collection agencies
  • Effectively negotiating payment plans & settlements
  • Resolving patient account credits.
  • Completing necessary reports to support regulatory requirements

Job Requirements

  • Minimum of one year healthcare customer service experience.
  • Previous insurance experience preferred.
  • Working knowledge of CPT-4 & ICD-10 coding and Medicare Review required.
