DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

We seek a bilingual (English/Spanish) Field Representative to help build power for property services members. The Field Representative will work primarily with janitors who work in commercial office buildings, higher education institutions, and other types of worksites. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Identify the issues of groups of workers and individual workers at work sites.
Effectively communicate in house calls, site visits, and group meetings
Identify and develop shop stewards and/or worksite leaders, and build effective member committees
Organize workers to take action on problems at work and in the community
Expand activist base of the union by connecting members to a variety of activities
Make and execute weekly work plans to support the work of the Union
Coordinate rallies, strikes, and other actions
Work with Grievance Center staff to ensure coordinated delivery of services to members

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

While no one candidate will possess every quality outlined for this position, the successful candidate will bring many of the following professional skills and personal attributes.
Strong organizational skills with ability to manage and prioritize work subject to deadlines in a dynamic environment, both individually and as a team member.
Bilingual in verbal and written Spanish and English is required.
Demonstrated commitment working for social justice.
Ability to lead, motivate, and inspire members to develop into leaders and participate in key union programs including political, representation, bargaining and organizing.
Computer skills including MS Office/Outlook and ability to learn union tools including field app and database.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

This position is a full time position that occasionally requires work outside normal business hours, including some nights, weekends and holidays.
This position is based in the Boston, MA office.
This position requires travel to worksites.
Valid driver’s license and car with insurance required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

This position requires traveling to worksites and participating in events, marches and demonstrations.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:

The salary for this role is $60,076 to $64,099.98, depending on experience. 32BJ offers a full benefits package that includes an employer-paid medical, dental and vision plan (for full-time employees and their qualified dependents) and retirement benefits, including a defined benefit pension plan and 401K. This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement.
