Job Description

Summary:

The Coordinator, Student Academic Services provides student-centered academic and scholarly support across all disciplines. The Academic Support Team’s peer educator programs (PEP) include, but are not limited to, Supplemental Instruction (SI), the Tutoring Lab, referral tutoring, quantitative support, and the Writing Center. The Coordinator, Academic Services supports the overall mission of PEP, with a primary focus on Supplemental Instruction. Working with the Director and Assistant Director, the Coordinator follows established procedures and coordinates all day-to-day activities of Supplemental Instruction. The Coordinator works closely with the Director and Assistant Director in support of the university’s discipline specific academic support programs targeting the academic success and retention of students in traditionally challenging courses. Under the direction of the Assistant Director, the Coordinator is responsible for outreach and engagement activities on behalf of the PEP and Supplemental Instruction. The Coordinator is responsible for training and supervising PEP tutors, and updating and maintain PEP procedures. This position works under general supervision.

  • Program Coordination
  • In coordination with colleagues on the DUE/VPASS team and under the supervision of the Assistant Director, follow established procedures and coordinate all day-to-day activities of the PEP. This includes conducting research, gathering materials, and scheduling in addition to Conducting observations of tutoring sessions, assessing tutors’ quality of instruction and support, and debriefing with tutors on observations.
  • Implements aspects of the university’s discipline specific academic support programs targeting the academic success and retention of students in traditionally challenging courses.
  • The Coordinator works closely and communicates regularly with their [Coordinator] counterparts, to ensure consistent administrative practices and effective and efficient delivery of peer educator-led services.
  • Manages the peer educator email account and fields student inquiries. Schedules spaces for SI sessions, trainings, and orientation. Reviews program assessments.
  • Staff Management
  • The Coordinator assists in executing hiring protocols and training to ensure consistency with all DUE/VPASS PEP operations.
  • The Coordinator will be directly responsible for the recruitment, training, supervision, and evaluation of tutors and peer educators, with an emphasis on Supplemental Instruction.
  • They will co-facilitate orientations and trainings for graduate and undergraduate student employees.
  • The Coordinator will prepare instructional materials and organize workshops for both tutors and clients.
  • Academic Support
  • Manages the peer educator email account and fields student inquiries. Schedules spaces for SI sessions, trainings, and orientations.
  • Reviews program assessments.
  • The Coordinator will work on various elements of academic support in collaboration with colleagues in the UEAS.
  • They will provide direct academic support to students in all disciplines through workshop presentations, one-on-one appointments, etc.
  • The Coordinator is responsible for creating, maintaining, updating, and disseminating tools and artifacts that be shared with the university community, on topics related to tutoring skills, tactics, and other relevant areas.
  • The Coordinator will support the Director in defining and executing the development of academic support for STEM and AU Core classes.
  • Communication and Outreach
  • Conducts program outreach, marketing, and tabling, for students and faculty, to increase awareness of all student academic services peer educator programs.
  • The position is responsible for coordinating faculty referrals of students.
  • Under the direction of the Assistant Director, will communicate program information to faculty members, department heads, and other stakeholders.
  • The Coordinator will co-manage the PEP’s social media presence, develop and maintain all promotional materials including the PEP website pages.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Salary Range

  • $53,055-$55,055 annually.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

  • Full-time position.
  • The continuation of this position is contingent upon funding.
  • 35 hours per week
  • Monday through Friday from 9:00am-5:00pm. Occasional weekend work may be required.
  • This is a union-eligible position. The union-eligibility of individual position incumbents will be determined based on the incumbent’s employer of record.

Required Education And Experience

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • 1-3 years of relevant experience.
  • Must possess expertise in academic skill development, tutoring, writing instruction, and tutor training.

Preferred Education And Experience

  • Master's degree or equivalent.
  • 2-4 years of relevant experience.
  • Administrative experience.
  • Experience in higher education and knowledge of university resources.
  • Experience with peer educator programs.
  • Seeks out, values, and utilizes diverse knowledge and experiences.
  • Experience incorporating anti-racist practices in job duties.
