ACCOUNTING SUPERVISOR
Overview
The Central Pension Fund of the International Union of Operating Engineers and Participating Employers ("Central Pension Fund") is one of the largest multiemployer defined benefit pension plans in the United States, and provides pension, death, and disability benefits to over 214,000 participants and beneficiaries throughout the United States.
The Fund Office, which is based in Washington, D.C., is seeking an experienced Accounting Supervisor to join its Accounting Department.
The ideal candidate will be a proven leader with excellent accounting and communication skills who will work closely with the Fund’s Controller to develop and implement systems for collecting, analyzing, verifying, and reporting financial information, and assist in the day-to-day responsibilities of the Fund's Accounting Department.

Responsibilities
• Ensure that all financial transactions are accounted for in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles;
• Maintain internal controls and safeguards for receipt of employer contributions, benefit expenses, and administrative expenses;
• Perform periodic budget to actual comparison analysis;
• Prepare reconciliations and supporting schedules for monthly and annual close;
• Update and monitor cash flow forecasting;
• Prepare supporting schedules for annual audit;
• Supervise and train accounting department direct report employees;
• Prepare tax filings;
• Manage Accounts Payable processing;
• Prepare journal entries for posting to the General Ledger;
• Process biweekly payroll;
• Assist in preparing financial statements and other required reports;
• Assist in special projects;
• Manage operational data and maintain data accuracy and integrity;
• Other duties as assigned
Qualifications and Skills
• BA/BS in Accounting, Finance or related field;
• 3 or more years of relevant experience in accounting and financial reporting, which would preferably include supervisory experience;
• Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Masters of Business Administration (MBA) preferred;
• Strong working knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and tax regulations;
• Experience with pension plans and form 5500 preferred;
• Ability to show initiative, solve problems, handle multiple tasks simultaneously, and meet reporting deadlines;
• Ability to work independently, prioritize and develop timelines and schedules;
• Strong customer service orientation and communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to interact effectively with all levels of staff and management with varying degrees of financial knowledge;
• Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
