Position Description

The Department of Language Science is seeking an American Sign Language lecturer to teach a one quarter course on Deaf Culture (Titled: Introduction to Deaf Culture). The course would be offered annually. This course supplements our new three-quarter ASL sequence of courses intended to satisfy UC Irvine’s foreign language requirement. This fourth course will be part of the Department's new Certificate Program. Qualified applicants will be skilled (preferably native) signers of American Sign Language with strong teaching credentials, training in linguistics, and with a strong background in Deaf culture. Candidates should have an advanced degree in linguistics or related discipline.

The review process will begin immediately, and screening will continue until position is filled. Initial course offering is Spring 2025.

This term appointment falls under the purview of the agreement between the University of California and the American Federation of Teachers. Terms and

conditions of employment are subject to UC policy and the collective bargaining

If selected, first-time Language Science Department Lecturer appointees will receive a one-year appointment.

Qualifications
