Qualifications

Applicants must meet all qualifications and eligibility requirements by the closing date of the announcement including specialized experience and/or education as defined below.

For all positions, individuals must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below.

  • Attention to Detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail.
  • Customer Service - Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services.
  • Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately.
  • Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.

Specialized Experience To Qualify For The GS-14 Level

The specialized experience must include, or be supplemented by, information technology related experience (paid or unpaid experience and/or completion of specific, intensive training, as appropriate) which demonstrates each of the four competencies, as defined:

To qualify for the GS-14 grade level, you must possess at least one year specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 level or higher in the Federal service (or private sector equivalent) that has equipped you with the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of this position. This position primarily serves as a "Senior DevOps Engineer". Applicant must have specific experience clearly reflected in their resume in three or more of the following technologies.

  • Building automated infrastructure deployment pipelines using Terraform.
  • Building automated platform or application deployment pipelines using Puppet.
  • Building application deployment automation using AWS [Amazon Web Services] native services such as CodeDeploy.
  • Building test automation pipelines using products such as ReadyAPI.
  • Building application deployment automation pipelines using Jenkins.
  • Building automation pipelines to deploy serverless and containerized systems in AWS such as Lambda and EKS.
  • Developing and executing automation to support large-scale data migration solutions for legacy SQL Server to modern cloud PaaS such as AWS Aurora PostgreSQL.

  • This position is eligible for telework within the local commuting area of the position and other flexible work arrangements. Current USDA policy includes telework for an 8 hour work day, 4 days per week; other flexibilities are possible dependent upon availability and/or the position and its associated duties. Employee participation is at the discretion of the supervisor.
