About the Company:

The City of Sherwood is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Part-time, (20hrs/week) Finance Technician I. The part-time (20 hrs/week) Finance Technician I performs a variety of moderately complex duties to contribute to the efficient operation of the Finance Department.


About the Role:

The part-time (20 hrs/week) Finance Technician I is an AFSCME represented position and is responsible for both administrative duties and entry-level financial duties, that include but are not limited to, organizing, researching, and reporting financial information. This level of responsibility requires a thorough understanding of the functions of the Finance Department. This classification is expected to function independently in routine daily tasks; and exercise initiative and independent judgment on non-routine matters. Problems are identified and solved, and only unusual/complex problems are referred to a supervisor.


Responsibilities:

  • Processes and tracks incoming financial data, reports, deadlines, and other information to ensure accurate and timely processing in the City's automated accounting system.
  • Tracks financial reporting deadlines and public disclosure notice requirements.
  • Supports audit and budget processes.
  • Assists in the preparation of annual financial and budgetary reports.
  • Routine processing of Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable.
  • Prepares consolidated weekly banking deposits.
  • Maintains credit card process, posting transactions to the General Ledger, reconciling receipts to statements and card administration.
  • Monitors unclaimed property, following state regulations and adhering to reporting requirements.
  • Utilizes word processing and financial software to assist in budgetary and financial reporting.
  • Ability to take and transcribe meeting minutes, prepare and post public meeting notices and coordinates materials for distribution.
  • Works with information technology to coordinate department information on City website.
  • Maintains files and records to ensure easy retrieval, safety and integrity of files and records, in accordance with established retention guidelines.
  • Nurtures and maintains cooperative working relationships with City staff, other organizations and the general public.
  • Follows all safety rules and procedures for work areas.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Qualifications:

Mandatory Requirements: Knowledge of accounting practices and bookkeeping, and secretarial practices. Advanced knowledge of office practices and procedures, business English, word processing and spreadsheet software, clerical practices, research methods, report composition and preparation techniques, etc. Ability to operate standard office equipment. Equivalent to high school education and five or more years of progressively responsible administrative support experience, or any satisfactory combination of experience and training which demonstrates the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the above duties.



Desirable Qualifications: Knowledge of municipal government functional areas and specific financial and word processing software utilized within the department.



Special Requirements/Licenses: Must successfully pass a criminal history background check.


Physical Demands of Position:

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand, bend, kneel, stoop, communicate, reach and manipulate objects. The position requires mobility. Duties involve moving materials weighing up to 10 pounds on a regular basis such as files, books, office equipment, etc., and may infrequently require moving materials weighing up to 25 pounds. Manual dexterity and coordination are required over 50% of the work period while operating equipment such as computer keyboard, calculator, and standard office equipment.


Working Conditions:

Usual office working conditions. The noise level in the work area is typical of most office environments with telephones, personal interruptions, and background noises.


Supervisory Responsibilities:

Supervision is not a function assigned to this position. May provide training and orientation to volunteers, and new city personnel on payroll policies and practices.


Supervision Received:

Works under the general supervision of the Finance Manager.


Work Schedule:

This is a 20-hours a week position with a schedule to be agreed with the Finance Director.
