Responsibilities
- Assists the Director in developing and implementing adult orientation sessions.
- Attends staff meetings, monthly parent meetings, annual planning retreat, annual staff planning
- retreat, and other special meetings
- Submits progress reports and other records during the year, as requested by the Director.
- Notifies the Director, immediately, of personal difficulties related to children, parents and staff
- Communicates and cooperates with the Director in implementing program changes
- Prepares an environment that ensures that furnishings and materials are complete and developmentally appropriate for the age group of children in the classroom
- Works with the assistant teacher to always ensure the safety and well-being of the children, make sure that children as never left unattended
- Utilizes positive phrasing of directives for children
- Works with individual and small groups of children and prepares circle time lessons
- Sets aside time to give the assistant the opportunity to share observations and ask questions
- Supervises the implementation of curriculum implementation
- Supervises the assistant or substitute who deals with children in the group to ensure effective implementation of indoor and outdoor activities
- Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood education or related field of study approved the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene; Master degree preferred
- Minimum two (2) years relevant experience of teaching in a pre-school program for you young children (ages 2- 5 years old)
- Valid certification issued by the State Education Department
- Knowledge of best practices in Early Childhood Education
- Knowledge of classroom management and positive behavior guidance
- Knowledge of developmental milestones and early Childhood Education Pedagogy
- Knowledge of Health and Safety Practices and Guidelines
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills - oral, written, and listening
- Technology -savvy (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Team, Zoom) ability to navigate diverse online assessment tools
- Bilingual a plus
