Position Title: IT Systems Administrator / Endpoint Manager

Description

The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) is recruiting an IT Systems Administrator/Endpoint Manager. This position manages endpoint hardware and software throughout MDT. Hardware related duties include researching, evaluating, configuring, deploying, maintaining, and disposing of endpoints, printers, and other computer related hardware. Software management tasks include tracking existing software installs and licenses, creating automated deployment tasks, and monitoring and maintaining systems used for automated deployment.Additional duties include testing software for compatibility with existing operating systems and other installed software, planning, designing, testing, and completing future software migrations.

This position also provides technical support to MDT computer users and ISD staff on computer hardware and software issues. This involves answering technical questions, providing direction, and determining appropriate responses, including referrals to other personnel. Provides high-level assistance and technical analysis for department users to ensure employees are adequately supported to use applications appropriate to their jobs. This involves responding to, troubleshooting, and coordinating resolution of user problems. This position is part of a career ladder with career advancement opportunities.

Required Education And Experience

The required knowledge and skills are typically acquired through a combination of education and experience equivalent to Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or a related field.

The level of experience for a Level 1 IT Systems Administrator/End Point Management Specialist with the BA degree in Computer Science requires a minimum of 1 year of experience.

The level of experience for a Level 2 IT Systems Administrator/End Point Management Specialist with the BA/BS degree in Computer Science requires a minimum of 2 years of experience.

Alternative qualifications include: Any combination of additional related work experience and education equivalent to the minimum qualifications.

This agency may use a training assignment. Employees in training assignments may be paid below the base pay established by the agency pay rules. Conditions of the training assignment will be stated in writing at the time of hire.

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

  • Extensive knowledge of Endpoint and Software IT Operations.
  • Extensive knowledge of hardware related duties includes researching, evaluating, configuring, deploying, maintaining, and disposing of endpoints, printers, and other computer related hardware.
  • Extensive knowledge of software management tasks include tracking existing software installs and licenses, creating automated - deployment tasks, and monitoring and maintaining systems used for automated deployment.
  • Extensive knowledge of testing software for compatibility with existing operating systems and other installed software, planning, designing, testing, and completing future software migrations.
  • Extensive knowledge of creating base OS images for deployment across a fleet of endpoints.
  • Excellent customer service skills. Provides high-level assistance and technical analysis for department users to ensure employees are adequately supported to use applications appropriate to their jobs. This involves responding to, troubleshooting, and coordinating resolution of user problems.
  • Excellent team player and the ability to work independently when needed.

The successful candidate must pass a fingerprint background investigation as a condition of employment.
