Job Summary
The primary job responsibilities of the Special Services Technicians are to initiate and build customer relationships while providing technical solutions through our products and services. The Special Services Technician installs and repairs various service circuits or equipment, such as voice-grade private line, Metro Ethernet, and Business Wi-Fi Networks. A Special Service Technician regularly interacts with customers and the local community, representing Ziply Fiber as brand ambassadors. Therefore, customer service skills and excellent technical expertise to resolve telecommunication issues are necessary.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
The Essential Duties and Responsibilities listed below are a range of duties performed by the employee and not intended to reflect all duties performed.
- Drives to site and installs, repairs, trouble-shoots, maintains, tests, rearranges, and removes special service circuits/equipment.
- Performs cable connection via network interface arrangements.
- Performs all tests and adjustments necessary to put equipment/special services circuits in operation.
- Uses specialized tools and test equipment, schematics, circuit diagrams and manufacturer's specifications.
- Maintains Field Remotes, DLC, RLUs, TA5000 HSI and Combo Sites.
- Performs PMP Routines and Maintenance on Field Remotes.
- Installs and Maintains Multi-Radio Commercial Wi-Fi Solutions.
- Turns up and Assists with Provisioning Metro-E Circuits and Managed Routers.
- Works independently; decisions based on problem solving, technical knowledge, and capabilities of system.
- Climbs poles and ladders; works aloft and/or in confined spaces.
- Follows all appropriate laws, Company policies and safety procedures.
- Communication - Confers and coordinates with other departments to address work requests, discrepancies or concerns.
- Vehicle Maintenance - Conducts safety checks and ensures the assigned vehicle is in proper running condition, i.e., checks water, oil, tire pressure and fuel; maintain reports/records as necessary
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
- Five (5) years of experience in telecommunications installation and maintenance.
- Must possess and maintain a valid State Driver's License and satisfactory driving record.
- Certified Wireless Technology Specialist (CWTS) preferred.

- Wireless network trouble diagnostics
- Service orders, trouble tickets and circuit diagrams
- Obtain and maintain certification to climb poles and ladders.
- Tolerance to work aloft and in confined spaces.
- Must possess the ability to perceive difference in colors.
- Manual dexterity, able to use small hand tools.
- Must possess the ability to distinguish audible tones/levels.
- Ability to drive on behalf of the company in a safe manner.

Special Services Technician work involves driving a motor vehicle approximately 50% of the time and must be able to perform all functions of operating a motor vehicle regularly and safely. Essential and marginal functions may require maintaining physical condition necessary to frequently stand, walk, climb, or sit for prolonged periods of time and regularly position oneself (e.g., bend, twist, reach, grasp, push, pull) to handle, lift, and carry objects over 50 lbs.
Work Environment
The Special Services Technician will frequently work in extreme temperatures (-30
- to 110
- Fahrenheit), and heights over 15 feet. They will occasionally work in confined spaces (i.e., attics, crawl spaces, manholes, trenches), and loud/high noise levels. Except where appropriate and conducive to accomplishing the goals and objectives of a particular task (such as in an emergency) the Equipment Technician will work in a well-lighted area that is ventilated and is as physically and psychologically innocuous as possible under the conditions which exist at a particular time.
