Job Summary

Under the supervision of a Nurse Manager and guided by the policies and procedures of Ambulatory Services, the Licensed Vocational Nurse works in collaboration with the clinical team in delivering high quality care to patients in the 360 Positive Care/Women’s Specialty Clinic. The 360/Women’s Specialty Clinics provide both primary care and specialty consultation to patients who are HIV positive or at high risk of contracting HIV. The Licensed Vocational Nurse is responsible for providing nursing care to patients in the ambulatory setting. All components of nursing care will be individualized to meet the patient’s physiological and psychosocial developmental level and needs. Works collaboratively with RN as a nursing resource for staff and provides nursing supervision that is within the scope of practice in the absence of the RN. The Licensed Vocational Nurse supports the clinical team that consists of physicians, nurse practitioners, registered nurses, social workers, medical assistants, pharmacists, dieticians, outreach coordinators, and program coordinators.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $43.00 - $53.94 (Hourly Rate).

Department Description

The 360 Positive Care and Women’s Specialty Clinics are outpatient primary care clinics for men and women living with HIV or at high risk for contracting HIV that uses an innovative model of trauma-informed healthcare to provide culturally sensitive and effective integrated medical and behavioral health care to patients as well as nurturing support to staff and providers. The 360 and Women’s Specialty Clinics have a strong inter-disciplinary team of providers and staff to address patients’ needs in a holistic and integrated way—including primary care, OB/GYN, geriatric, specialty pharmacy, nutrition, psychiatry, individual and group therapy, social work, case management, and nursing. The Men of Color Program and Black Health Center of Excellence provides intensive case management to patients who are low-income persons of color living with HIV who may have experienced significant structural and personal trauma in their lives. Many 360 and Women’s Specialty patients have co-occurring mental health and substance use conditions as well as co-morbid health conditions like diabetes, heart disease, and lung disease. Our clinic provides both medical and behavioral health interventions to meet patients’ needs.

Required Qualifications

  • This position requires flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations.
  • Graduated from an accredited vocational nursing program with certificate and ability to perform phlebotomy.
  • At least six (6) to twelve (12) months minimum experience in an ambulatory setting
  • Familiarity with process of prior authorizations to obtain specialty biologic medications
  • Must have worked in a medical team consisting of several providers and an administrative assistant, knowing in-basket management, assisting with medication refills, coordinating services and scheduling of appointments and procedures
  • Strong computer skills and use of Microsoft Office
  • Ability to prioritize work efficiently and independently, demonstrating strong self initiative
  • Excellent communication to patients and all levels of personnel with excellent writing skills
  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to use electronic medical record

Preferred Qualifications

  • At least three (3) to six (6) months experience working with HIV positive patients, preferably in a medical specialty setting
  • Phlebotomy certification

License/Certification

  • Active Licensed Vocational Nurse licensure in the State of California
  • Active American Heart Association CPR Certification
