The School of Drama has an outstanding opportunity for a Wardrobe and Costume Stock Coordinator(Costumer Lead (NE S SEIU 925 Non Supv)) to join their team.
The Wardrobe and Costume Stock Coordinator at the University of Washington School of Drama is responsible for overseeing the wardrobe department for productions and managing costume stock. This position requires collaboration with production staff and the ability to lead and instruct student workers and crews on proper protocols and procedures. The ideal candidate will ensure the smooth operation of the wardrobe department through the production process, maintain the quality of our stock resources, and manage the inventory efficiently. This is a temporary position for the 2024-25 academic year, though we hope to extend it into the future.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Stock Management [50%]
- Organize and maintain the costume stock, ensuring items are properly labeled, stored, and inventoried.
- Manage the costume inventory database, tracking items loaned and returned.
- Coordinate with Student Assistants assigned to work with the costume stock, ensuring that established protocols and procedures are understood and maintained.
- Conduct regular inventory checks and manage costume rental requests.
- Oversee the acquisition, cataloging, and storage of new costume pieces.
- Coordinate with the Costume Shop Manager for costume stock needs and purchases.Wardrobe Supervision [40%]
- Oversee all wardrobe operations for the School of Drama’s productions—specifically through technical rehearsals, previews, performances and strike.
- Perform or oversee necessary alterations and maintenance on wardrobe items and coordinate with the costume shop staff regarding notes from technical rehearsal, previews and performances.
- Work with student crews to coordinate costume changes during performances and manage quick changes.
- Ensure costumes are properly cared for, cleaned, and stored after each use.
- Develop and enforce wardrobe protocols and procedures for student workers and crews.
- Maintain costume continuity and quality throughout the run of each production.
- Work closely with production staff, including directors, designers, and stage managers, to meet costume requirements.
- Attend technical rehearsals and previews. Attend production meetings as needed.Additional Duties [10%]
- Additional duties as assigned by the Costume Shop Manager or Production Manager. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Two years of college training in costume or vocational sewing, pattern making, and fabric cutting AND three years of professional theater costuming experienceORequivalent education/experience. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS include but are not limited to:
- Experience with costume database software.
- Knowledge of historical and contemporary costume design.
- Previous experience in an educational setting.
- Strong organizational and inventory management skills.
- Excellent communication and leadership abilities.
- Proficiency in costume construction, alteration, and maintenance techniques.
- Ability to work collaboratively with diverse production teams and student workers. Schedule
