Job Summary

Pay Rate: $50.00 per hour

The Chief Engineer is responsible for the management and operations of the facility and systems of all building mechanicals; ensuring a safe working environment; conducting routine assessments; and performing day-to-day corrective and preventative maintenance.

The Chief Engineer leads all aspects of maintenance and repairs on site and determines the schedule for maintenance and repairs. The Chief Engineer leads the engineering team in their work and conducts own schedule of hands-on maintenance and repair.

Responsible for systems and equipment including heating and ventilation, pumps, hot water, cold water, air conditioning, valves, piping, filters, plumbing systems, electrical systems, etc.

Essential Job Functions

  • Train journeyman and apprentice level personnel in correct maintenance and safety practices.
  • Inspect and conduct oversight of preventative maintenance measures and mechanical repairs
  • Conduct Critical Equipment Condition Assessment Repair and report findings to Project Manager
  • Perform required maintenance services for the facility which includes multi-story buildings
  • Ensure technical team are completing service requests through the CMMS systems
  • Provides input to Project Manager for reporting and monthly meetings
  • Provide supervision to employees engaged in the operation, maintenance, and repair of the high- and low-pressure steam distribution systems for heating, drying, air-conditioning, and air and water pressure systems.
  • Monitor Building Automation Systems (BAS)
  • Operate and maintain Electrical systems and equipment
  • Operate, maintain, and repair mechanical, plumbing, and HVAC systems in a commercial setting
  • Support staff with the engineering systems and drawings and equipment
  • Conduct own repair and maintenance procedures as needed to assist the team
  • Other duties as assigned by Project Manager

Required Skills, Experience, And Education

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • EPA Universal certification
  • 5 years of experience (within the past 7 years) in directing the operation and maintenance of equipment in a supervisory capacity
  • 2 years of experience (within the past 5 years) in BAS systems; CMMS; VISTA; and boilers and chillers over 1200 tons
  • Experience working in buildings of at least 300,000 sq ft
  • Experience with automation control systems such as BAS, Niagra Tridium, JACE, Public Address, and Computerized Lighting Systems.
  • Ability to operate and maintain electrical systems and equipment
  • Ability to operate, maintain, and repair mechanical, plumbing, BAS, HVAC, Boilers, Chillers, AHUs in a commercial setting
  • Ability to operate and maintain architectural and structural systems, fixtures and equipment
  • Ability to operate and maintain egress and access systems including but not limited to: locks, keys, keycard systems, vehicle barrier system, static and dynamic bollard systems, dock levelers and bumpers, garage doors
  • Experience with storm drainage systems and ability to operate and maintain sanitary sewage equipment and systems
  • Ability to maintain and clean facilities designated as "Historic."

  • Must currently possess or be able to enroll into a training course and obtain one of the following certifications within 6 months:
    • N.A.P.E. Certification Air Conditioning III - Operations and Management (National Association of Power Engineers)
    • Advanced Boiler Operator Certification
    • International Union of Operating Engineers (IUOE) class 3 stationary engineer

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to occasionally loud.
