Summary
Solidarity Center is seeking a Field Auditor/Financial Analyst to join our growing Finance and Accounting team in Washington, DC headquarters. This newly created senior staff position will ensure that our field accounting systems meet US government regulations and the needs of the Solidarity Center, with responsibility for designing internal audit procedures for field office audits. This individual will develop, update, and maintain accounting manuals for field office accounting policy and procedures, which will include setting up accounting systems for new field offices and providing QuickBooks training for new Country Program Directors (CPD) and local accountant staff. Serving as the lead trainer for local accountants as well as CPDs, the Field Auditor-Financial Analyst will also be responsible for resolving particular accounting problems/situations that arise through account analysis and the development of information systems that facilitate data flow. The Field Auditor/Financial Analyst should be able to work readily with all levels of staff in a helpful, supportive way while ensuring the integrity of the Solidarity Center’s financial policies and procedures.
Qualifications
- Bachelors Degree in Accounting (or Bachelors Degree in Business with twenty one credit hours in Accounting courses)
- CFE (Certified Fraud Examiner) credential
- CPA Certificate (not required but desirable)
- Solid/thorough knowledge of accounting theory and of government grant regulations including 2 CFR 200
- Ten years of combined audit, systems development, and accounting experience
- Experience working overseas
- Experience with DCAA or other government audits (not required but desirable)
- Experience working in Deltek Costpoint accounting software
- Advanced skills in Excel and QuickBooks
- Ability to communicate persuasively in writing and orally
- Ability to work independently through complex accounting transactions, issues and problems and explain them satisfactorily to both accountants and program staff in the headquarter office and field office
- Ability to manage multiple assignments simultaneously and demonstrate problem-solving skills
This position requires an individual who is well organized, self-motivated, detail-oriented, able to produce accurate work, willing to learn, and able to work in a team environment. Extensive travel to Solidarity Center’s field office is required.
Supervisor: International Finance Manager
Specific Duties
- Design internal audit programs for field offices, responsible for maintaining Solidarity Center’s audit programs to ensure compliance with Audit of Non-profit organization guidance as well as GAAP and GAAS
- Set up accounting system (QuickBooks) for new field office, train newly hired Country Program Director (CPD) prior to going to assigned field office
- Provide on going training and guidance to headquarters project accountant as well as local accountant staff
- Work with field offices and assigned HQ project accountants to ensure that field office accounting systems are operating properly, field accountants are properly trained, and strong controls are in place
- Prepare field offices where government audits are required or where the US government is conducting a specific field review
- Perform on-site audits of sub-grantees, including a pre-award survey (for large grantees) of internal controls and accounting procedures
- Perform internal audits on field offices to ensure compliance with policies, identify areas of noncompliance, and make recommendations for improvement; work with Country Program Director and local accountant to correct problems and improve capacity of local staff to comply with Field Office Accounting Policy and Procedures
- Provide coverage for Project Accountants on extended leave (more than three weeks)
- Travel on behalf of a Project Accountant as needed
- Work with the International Finance Manager, Director of Finance, and/or the Controller to develop computerized systems to facilitate the flow of work in the accounting department and between the field and Washington office
- Assist with preparation for Solidarity Center audit and provide account analysis and correcting entries throughout the year
- Assist the Director of Finance in preparing responses to government and external audit findings
- Analyze financial documents for signs of fraud
- Develop fraud detection techniques and best practices
- Analyze corporate credit card transactions for signs of fraud
- Assist with or conduct investigations of evidence and allegations of fraud
- Serve as backup to the Senior Project Accountant

This is a collective bargaining unit position, generously compensated with a gross annual salary starting at approximately $107k USD based on experience.
