Job Description
KEY JOB FUNCTIONS:
Responsible for the daily and long term maintenance and construction of Theatrical Costumes. Male Dresser preferred to run a show track involving quick changes of Male Performers.
Essential Functions
- Will be responsible for Costumes.
- Responsibilities include, but are not limited to laundering, ironing, dry cleaning, and repairs of the Costumes.
- Evaluates industry developments and recommends appropriate uses to management.
- Assures all products meet standards set by the department.
- Responsible for creating and maintaining a safe working environment.
- Works as directed by the Technical Manager in the Venue.
- Must be proficient in the maintenance of feathers, sequins, and fishnets among others.
- Must be able to run a dresser cue track full of highly specialized costumes that may involve corsets, snaps, showgirl backpacks, and quick changes on a show that can vary nightly.
- Meets the attendance guidelines of the job and adheres to regulatory, departmental and company policies.
Qualifications
- Five years professional work in theatrical production and/or live performance venues. Prior experience working with Drag shows preferred.
- Must possess excellent skills in basic machine sewing, hand sewing, repairing, and maintaining feathers, costumes, shoes, and wigs. Tailoring, alteration, quick change rigging, and costume building skills preferred. Jewelry, rhinestone and bead repair skills would be a perk.
- Must be self-motivated and be able to get along with co-workers and work as a team.
- Must present a well-groomed appearance.
- This is not an entry-level position.
- Must be able to adapt to a show that changes from night to night and sometimes on the spot.
- Must be able to maneuver to all areas of the Theater.
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds and carry 40 pounds up and down stairs multiple times a night.
- Must be able to bend, stoop, reach, kneel, twist, and grip items when necessary.
- Must be able to climb stairs and stand for long periods of time.
- Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment that may present stressful situations at times.
- Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English.
- Must be able to respond to visual and aural cues.
- Must possess an up-to-date OSHA 10 Certification.
- Must be a member of the Local 720 IATSE Union with an A-list standing.
