Duties As an AIRCRAFT MECHANIC (TITLE 32), WG-8852-10, this technician position is located in the Repair and Reclamation Shop. Aerospace Systems Section of the Field Maintenance Branch (Organizational Branch ADC only) in the Aircraft Maintenance Functional area. This position accomplishes on and off equipment maintenance on aircraft systems and components such as wheel and tire, flight control, canopies, landing gear, and performs general heavy airframe maintenance, beyond the capability of other maintenance activities. Provides capability for the recovery and reclamation of equipment of damaged or crashed aircraft.
- Performs all phases of the repair and reclamation process for crashed or damaged aircraft utilizing lifting bags, cranes, hoists, slims, forklifts, and other heavy equipment. Maintains and stores the special equipment identified and assigned to the crash recovery mission.
- Serves on the flight control team and may coordinate team functions. Participates in flight crew debriefing, troubleshooting, and repairing, and replacing components as required.
- Advises on and participates in the removal. rigging, and replacement of flight control surfaces. Utilizes a wide variety of technical gauges, instruments and tools such as bead breakers, micrometers, dial indicators, pressure gauges, torque wrenches, tensioners, weight and balance testers, and inside and outside calipers to test, overhaul, rig and install of major airframe components.
- Accomplishes organizational and intermediate level maintenance, which involves major repairs, TCTO's, and/or flight controls, landing gear, doors and canopies and associated equipment requiring structural or component maintenance beyond the capabilities of other activities.
- Performs intermediate level maintenance on aircraft wheel and tires and may also accomplish organizational maintenance such as wheel and tire and brake changes. When a supply point for build-up assets is established in the shop, will ensure DIFM assets processing and procedures are accomplished according to applicable directives.
- Prepares for and participates in various types of readiness evaluations such as ORI, II: and LIE inspections, mobility, and command support exercises. May be required to perform such additional duties as structural fire fighting, aircraft fire/crash/rescue duty, security guard, heavy equipment operator, maintenance of facilities and equipment, or serve as a member of a team to cope with natural disasters or civil emergencies.

GENERAL and SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Work involves the maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, overhaul, and modification of fixed and rotary wing aircraft systems, airframes, components and assemblies, where the work requires substantive knowledge of the airframe and aircraft mechanical, pneudraulic, and/or electrical systems and their interrelationships. Some work situations within this series may require varying levels of electronics knowledge. Experience or training that has provided the candidate with the skill to remove and replace aircraft parts, accessories, and components, and to make adjustments and settings according to established specifications. Must be skilled in the use of hand tools and test equipment. Must have at least 18 months experience or training installing, adjusting, aligning, troubleshooting, and functionally testing the various major and minor mechanical and pneudraulic systems on an aircraft during overhaul or modification. Experience coordinating the work of other mechanics, and scheduling maintenance to ensure completion of critical actions and optimum workflow. Must have the ability to instruct lower graded mechanics, military and other personnel in the disassembly and re-assembly of crash damaged engines, transmissions, gearboxes, hydraulic components, and fuel controls sufficient for the exhibit to be returned to its shipping container.
