Job Summary
This position is located in the D. C. Department of Corrections (DOC), Records Office. This position provides administrative and other support and assistance primarily related to the review, examination and verification of legal instruments and supporting documentation. The work performed supports the responsibility of the agency to ensure that the commitment of detainees and inmates is in compliance with the provisions of governing legal statues and established correctional policies and procedures.
Duties And Responsibilities
Receives, reviews thoroughly, and verifies commitment documents on detainees committed to DOC. Provides numerous inmates record keeping functions of a technical nature involving commitment documents received on a committed inmate. Computes routine and recurring sentences such as basic short sentences. Receives training and guidance pertinent to computing non-standard sentences as needed to enhance skills to allow the computation of more difficult sentences.
Prepares correspondence and response to inmate inquiries of a routine and recurring nature. Establishes files, maintains, and/or annotates inmate records and files, as instructed or appropriate. Responsible for maintaining inmate records for inputs, updates and retrieving computerized information. As appropriate, has telephone contact with attorneys, courts, Metropolitan Police Department (MPD), United States Marshal Service (USMS), Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), District of Columbia (DC) and Federal Government agencies concerning inmate information regarding sentence computations or other related matters. Transmits data from legal documents: such as case numbers, charges and sentencing dates from data bases such as JACCS System, Wales/NCIC, and Court View.
Qualifications And Education
Specialized Experience: Specialized experience is experience which is directly related to the position and has equipped the individual with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. To be creditable, at least one (1) year of specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression.

The work is generally performed in an office setting, however, if needed the incumbent may meet with the detainee within the housing unit.

Collective Bargaining Unit: This position is in the collective bargaining unit represented by the DOC and the Fraternal Order of Police (FOP). You may be required to pay an agency service fee through payroll deduction.
Position Designation: This position is designated as a Safety Sensitive position and is subject to mandatory pre-employment and periodic Criminal Background Checks and Traffic Records Checks (as applicable). This position is also subject to mandatory pre-employment and random Drug and Alcohol Testing. In this position, you may be disqualified from employment based on the presence of marijuana in test results, even if you possess a medical card authorizing the use of medical marijuana.
TB test will be required for the entry on duty.
