Essential Functions:

  • Review patient charts, extracting all pertinent information in order to compose narrative reports, attending physician statements, letters, complete forms, respond to requests for information. etc., as required.
  • Review authorizations for patient information for validity.
  • Review patient charts and select pertinent information for photocopying as requested.
  • Cover other work duties of the Medical Correspondence Unit to ensure work of the department is covered and backlogs are kept to a minimum.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Basic Qualification

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Demonstrated proficiency in English, verbal and written.
  • Demonstrated ability to work under stress, organize work effectively and maintain courteous relationships with co­workers and outside requestors.
  • Demonstrated commitment to serving needs of patients, their agents and family members.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Word required within 90 days of hire.
  • Sensatory completion of medical terminology course at an accredited institution, or equivalent.
  • Satisfactory completion of an anatomy and physiology course at an accredited institution, or equivalent, preferred.
  • Professional appearance conducive to creating a positive image to our members.
  • God work ethics and work stability.
  • Candidate must be willing to work in a labor/management partnership environment.
  • Must maintain Kaiser Customer Service Behavioral Expectations.
  • Ability to communicate with physicians and non-physician staff with a commitment to provide quality customer service.
  • Excellent telephone etiquette.
  • Excellent prioritizing and problem solving abilities demonstrated by ability to follow standard procedures and perform varied duties independently with a high degree of speed and accuracy in a fast-paced environment.
  • Flexibility and collaborative teamwork.
  • Demonstrate a service-oriented approach and an openness to creative and innovative approaches to providing service characterized by culturally sensitive, polite communication with patients, staff members, and visitors is required.
  • One year experience in last two reading clinical and/or inpatient records in response to authorizations for release of information. Abstracting, summarizing, and releasing pertinent medical information as requested.
  • Typing a minimum of 35wpm.
  • Basic Microsoft Word and Excel testing.
