This is a sensitive and responsible position that provides direct health delivery services to adults and children for the Florida Department of Health in St. Johns County.
This position is responsible for the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of clients under the direct or indirect supervision of a physician and written protocols. This includes but not limited to the review of prior medical records, reports and lab results and referrals to primary or specialty care as appropriate. This position also provides expertise and support to the immunization program, including the provision of routine adult and childhood vaccines as well as vaccines recommended for travel.
- Reviews prior medical records, reports, and lab results for patients.
- Examines, evaluates, manages, treats, and completes follow-up with patients in accordance with current Standards of Practice for Nurse Practitioners and in consultation with the supervising physician, when indicated. This includes but is not limited to performing pelvic examinations and obtaining Pap smears.
- Documents clearly, accurately, and timely in the electronic health record and on paper, as needed. Completes accurate CPT and diagnosis coding for each patient visit to support coding.
- Orders and interprets diagnostic laboratory tests for evaluation and treatment of patients. Prescribes, refers and/or administers appropriate treatment, medication, vaccination and/or other necessary medical care to treat or prevent illness, disease, or injury.
- Explains procedures and discusses test results with patients as needed.
- Follows the Title X Family Planning Clinical Manual regarding the prescribing of medication and contraception, providing of non-directive counseling and supporting of patients in making decisions related to contraception or basic fertility services.
- Collaborates with Epidemiology to ensure Sexually Transmitted Infection (STI) treatment and follow up is provided in accordance with the STI Treatment Guidelines.
This position provides consultation, guidance, recommendations, assistance, and support regarding immunizations given at FDOH-SJC. Remains up to date on Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) recommendations and practices as well as recommendations regarding immunizations required and suggested for traveling outside of the country.
This position assists the Executive Community Health Nursing Director and Medical Director with the ongoing development and review of clinical protocols, procedures, and quality control. Assists with the design and implementation of expanded clinical services to address any unmet need within the community.

Ensures the integrity/confidentiality of all data sets in the program; complies with the information security protocols and procedures (DOHP 50-10); security and privacy of client information is maintained; disclosure of confidential information is released only after proper authorization has been obtained; and information that is exempt from public record disclosure is maintained in a confidential manner.

Qualifications
Licensure/registration/certification requirements (If applicable, list the appropriate Florida Statute or federal regulation cite): Valid unrestricted Florida ARNP (Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner.) license, valid Florida driver’s license or the ability to obtain one within 30 days of hire .
Other job-related requirements for this position: Incumbent may be required to work before, during and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency. Emergency duty required of the incumbent includes working in special needs or Red Cross shelters, or performing other emergency duties including, but not limited to, responses to or threats involving any disaster or threat of disaster, man-made or natural. This position has been approved in accordance with Section 110.209, Florida Statutes, Chapter 60L-32 Florida Administrative Code and Collective Bargaining Agreements with the Florida Nurses Association (FNA) and the American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees (AFSCME), Florida Council 79. After being evaluated and recommended by the Executive Community Health Nursing Director to perform after hours and weekend on-call duties on a rotating schedule, the incumbent will carry a telephone and respond to emergencies and inquiries. The on-call nurse will make authorizations and referrals when medically necessary and appropriate. The on-call nurse will be compensated $1.00 per hour on-call on any day other than Saturday, Sunday, or a holiday. Saturday, Sunday and holidays’, the on-call nurse will be compensated equal to the amount of one-fourth of the statewide hourly minimum for your classification.
