The Indigenous Wellness Research Institute —a National Institutes of Health–designated Center of Excellence—collaborates with indigenous people in three areas: research, tribal capacity building and knowledge sharing. The Institute brings together community, tribal, academic and government resources, increasing its capacity to develop innovative, culture-centered and interdisciplinary social and behavioral research and education.


IWRI has an outstanding opportunity for a 50% Program Coordinator Position (NE S SEIU 925 Non Supv).


This position is supervised by Dr. Johnson-Jennings at the School of Social Work. This position will include working directly with the Wakaya randomized clinical trial, a youth land based healing intervention focused on physical activity and addiction prevention. This person will coordinate intervention activities with key community stakeholders and assist with coordination of community engaged training projects. We seek a proactive self-starter who has experience working in Indigenous health research, brings strong teamwork and multitasking skills, highly interpersonal and public speaking skills, and a passion for Indigenous health.


Duties And Responsibilities


  • Coordinate activities related to research projects and administration, especially among national partners. This will include working with the NIH randomized clinical trial Wakaya and NIH Indigenous health training programs, which include trainers spanning North America. Examples include coordinating meetings, communication and activities between stakeholders and researchers, handling social media and community wide recruitment and dissemination, email campaigns, social media content, and development of videos, newsletters, flyers, website content.
  • Planning, scheduling and participating in community outreach activities such as community events and cultural festivals, networking with community partners, advisory councils, and engaging in relationship building. Occasional dissemination (such as presentation and manuscript opportunities) will also be available.
  • Other duties to support research operations and administrative support as assigned. Examples: coordinating research trips, scheduling meetings, and travel reimbursements, logistics support for events, office organization/inventory, etc.
  • Creating databases, tracking and managing, coordinating and organizing research information and data. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  • High school graduation or equivalent AND two years of experience in the program specialty OR equivalent education/experience. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • A Bachelor's degree and graduate course experience in Indigenous studies, Social Work, Human Services, medicine, Education, Communications, or related field.
  • Prior experience working in Indigenous health related to physical activity and mental health and addictions.
  • Knowledge of public health issues in Indigenous or under-represented populations.
  • Basic research skills or research training program experience.
  • Excellent communication, and writing skills, with the ability to craft professional emails and provide meaningful application feedback to applicants.
  • Skilled in Microsoft tools such as Excel, Forms, teams, etc.
  • Ability to create and design materials in Canva, Adobe, or another similar program.
  • At least one year work experience working in Indigenous health research and among tribal entities.
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships with diverse groups, and to interact effectively with coworkers, internal and external stakeholders.
  • Administrative experience, such as coordinating logistics for meetings or events, financial reconciliation, etc.
