As a Lead Medical Assistant, you will have the opportunity to:
- Maintain and update patient medical records, including vital signs, treatments, and medications, and review immunization records.
- Prepare for patient visits by reviewing files, ensuring necessary reports are available, and collaborating with Providers for efficient scheduling and continuity of care.
- Prepare and maintain exam rooms, explain procedures to patients, provide education and coaching, respond to patient questions and concerns, and assist physicians during exams and procedures.
- Collect and prepare lab specimens, administer medication, and perform other assigned clinical responsibilities.
- Assists with the coordination of breaks and lunches.
- Proactively audits and monitors MA progress, tasks, and workflows and alerts leadership when a workflow is problematic or ineffective.
- Responsible for providing ongoing training to all employees and students, as needed.
- Provides ongoing coaching and mentoring for various processes.
- Develops a strong working relationship with other MAs and supports their skill mastery and core competencies required for job proficiency.
- Provides insights to leader(s) regarding the skill level and performance of the employee.
- A key contributor to new MA onboarding and training.
- Strong communication skills both with team members as well as with the supervisor.
- Or other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications: - Education:Minimum of a high school diploma or General Education Diploma GED that is accredited by a regional or national accrediting agency approved by the US Department of Education is required. Graduation from a medical assisting training program (may be a one-year certificate/diploma program or a two-year Associate Degree program) that is accredited by either the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES). This training program must be comprised of at least 720 hours of medical assistant training, including at least 160 hours in a clinical externship.
- Experience: 2 years of Medical Assistant work experience, and currently a certified MA, or eligible to take the certification exam. Minimum 1 year as a YVFWC employee in good standing with the organization, including commendable or exceptional scores on their annual performance review. A natural leader. Up to date on all required competencies.
- Professional Licenses/Certificates/Registration:Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification is required within 90 days of hire. Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification is required within 90 days of hire. Must have Medical Assistant Certification or Medical Assistant interim certification from the WA State Department of Health.
- Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Bilingual (English/Spanish) required. Must demonstrate the ability to communicate at level 10 on the language proficiency scale to receive bilingual differential pay. Medical knowledge to understand the theories, reasons and technical aspects of medicine. Strong people skills to handle different personalities, backgrounds, and personal situations. Strong multi-tasking ability to handle the variety and pace of work. Basic proficiency with a variety of computer programs, including Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Epic, and EMR. Additional Lead Requirements:
- Complete the YVFWC mentorship training series, including sign-off on proficiency in training and assisting others.
- Sign-off on mastery of role duties.
- Positive attitude, problem-solving, approachable, model employee in the organization with strong interpersonal skills.
- Excellent communication skills with staff and supervisors alike.
- Ability to multitask and prioritize effectively.
- Acts as a role model for others in the department in both attitude, skills, and work ethic.
- Able to think critically and act as a change agent.
- This role is to be done in addition to working with a provider in order to maintain skills and stay current with expected workflows.
