This position is included in a bargaining unit of Housing Works’ New York City employees represented by a labor union known as the Retail Wholesale and Department Store Union (“RWDSU”). Accordingly, the RWDSU has the exclusive right to bargain over the terms and conditions of employment related to this position and this position may become covered by the terms of a collective bargaining agreement (a “CBA”) between Housing Works and the RWDSU
This position requires applicants to successfully complete a background check through the New York State Office of Children and Family Services when it supports the mandate under Section 424-a of the Social Services Law for legally authorized agencies to inquire of the Statewide Central Register of Child Abuse and Maltreatment (SCR) as to the existence of any indicated reports of child abuse and maltreatment against an applicant prior to employment, certification, or licensure in the childcare field. All background checks will be conducted and reviewed in accordance with applicable federal, state and local law.
Compensation Range: $17/hr - $19/hr commensurate with experience
Overview
The Patient Service Representative (PSR) is an essential member of the Primary Care team, responsible for welcoming all customers entering the Health Care Center. The PSR ensures that all enrollment documentation and insurance verification is accurately completed and documented. This role supports providers and patients with scheduling follow-up appointments and consultations, maintaining a smooth and welcoming atmosphere in the waiting room. The PSR is expected to deliver outstanding customer service to all patients and internal/external customers while ensuring the efficient and effective daily operation of the clinic front office.
Responsibilities
- Perform professional, efficient, and accurate scheduling of patient appointments.
- Greet patients as they enter the clinic, including registering and checking in patients.
- Assist patients with the registration process professionally and accurately.
- Understand and meet the needs of our customers, providing service and resolving problems or escalating issues to the Clinic Manager as needed.
- Direct patients to providers in an organized manner.
- Verify insurance for scheduled patients at check-in, including pre-authorization verification.
- Answer telephone calls, direct callers to the appropriate person, and take messages when providers are seeing patients.
- Assist with patient registration on the kiosk.
- Oversee completion of enrollment data, including obtaining medical record numbers in EiCare.
- Conduct reminder calls and outreach to patients to reschedule appointments.
- Verify demographic information at check-in daily.
- Prepare medical insurance billing forms for visits, check epaces and insurance portal, and assist clients with Sliding Fee Scale Application, including verification and follow-up of all documents related to the uninsured program.
- Document patient assigned PCP and insurance eligibility in patient documents at each visit.
- Distribute metro-cards to patients at each visit and reconcile daily on PTAR.
- Participate in daily huddles.
- Accept and accurately record visit co-payments and sliding scale fees; reconcile and transfer them to the Clinic Manager or Health Center Director.
- Call transportation for patients.
- Maintain a clean and organized reception area.
- Ensure the waiting area and coffee station are kept clean and neat, free of trash and spills.
- Collaborate with the Client Concierge to ensure coverage of duties in their absence.
- Commute to other clinic locations as needed for coverage.
- Perform other related tasks as assigned.
