University Facility Services Plumbing department is looking for a Plumber to join our team. The Plumbing Shop in UFS is an award winning team that provides a wide variety of Plumbing Services to the University of Arizona campus. We are interested in applicants who are passionate about the Plumbing trade and who are interested in performing a variety of tasks with precision and safety.

The primary job responsibilities for this position include repairing, maintaining, and the installation of mechanical systems and plumbing systems. As a Journeyman Plumber you will be responsible for new installations, renovations, and service within the commercial, industrial and residential settings in compliance with the Uniform Plumbing Code (UPC) and mechanical codes. Duties & Responsibilities

  • Installs, repairs and maintains mechanical room equipment, piping, fixtures and other system equipment and components in compliance with uniform plumbing codes (UPC) and mechanical codes, standards and regulations.
  • Operates a variety of plumbing equipment used for locating and determining types of plumbing malfunctions.
  • Studies plans, drawings, specifications and work orders to determine work requirement and sequence of repairs and/or installations.
  • May perform hot work if qualified and trained with all necessary precautions in place.
  • Assists in training and developing apprentices by providing on the job instruction to basic tasks.
  • Plans what materials and tools needed to complete the job and performs duties as assigned by Lead Plumber and Supervisor.
  • Performs housekeeping duties to maintain a clean, uncluttered and safe work environment and ensures shop equipment is in proper working conditions.
  • Works with a commitment to safety and upholds the core values of Facilities Management at The University of Arizona.
  • Prepares cost estimates for clients.
  • Reads blueprints and follows state and local building codes.
  • Installs pipes and fixtures.
  • Inspects and tests installed pipe systems and pipelines.
  • Troubleshoot malfunctioning systems.
  • Maintains and repairs plumbing systems.

Skills, Knowledge And Abilities

  • Knowledge of PRVs , Steam, Vacuum and Air.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent, or equivalent learning attained through experience required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience required.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and ability to drive according to the University Fleet Safety Policy.

  • Previous experience working as a Journeyman Plumber supporting a large facility (ie. School district, hospital, etc.).
  • Completion of a 4-year apprenticeship program.
