General Purpose
This position is responsible for enforcing parking related ordinances in the City of Burlington, through a lens of safety and equity, by issuing tickets and coordinating the towing of vehicles that pose a safety risk or infringe on equitable parking opportunities. Additionally, this position acts as a customer service representative regarding parking services in City’s the on-street and off-street parking resources. This position includes providing information, assistance, and support to customers using the various parking payment platforms the City offers.
Please note the schedule for this position: Friday, Saturday, Sunday 3-11 pm.

Pay Grade 11: $22.42 -$24.95 Hourly
Essential Job Functions
- Patrol assigned area/route and identify vehicles parked in violation of posted safety regulations (hydrants, here to corner, blocked driveways, un-registered, etc.) and/or equity regulations (meters, handicapped, abandoned, scoff, etc.), issue tickets and, as necessary, coordinate vehicle towing with the Parking Services Coordinator.
- Serve as ambassador for the City of Burlington by actively engaging with and providing assistance to the community related to parking, including directing vehicles to alternate parking resources when necessary. Respond to questions and inquiries from the general public, and provide information regarding parking services, regulations, procedures, directions, etc. in a professional manner.
- Relay complaints received the Parking Services Coordinator.
- During parking bans work with towing services and other City departments to remove vehicles as necessary to ensure expeditious and effective street cleaning and plowing operations.
- Assist customers with the use of self-service/self-pay equipment.
- Remain informed of special events and attractions in the Chittenden County area.
- Monitor phones, radios, surveillance cameras, door alarms, and weather-related equipment as directed.
- Monitor garage environment and report unusual events or hazardous conditions to supervisor or security.
- Monitor and count parked vehicles.
- Maintain accurate records of work activities in accordance with policies and procedures.
- Provide administrative support to Parking Services Coordinator as needed.
- Respond to subpoena to testify in court as needed.
- Conduct Vehicle Inspection Number certification as needed.
- Provide assistance to police officers as requested.
Non- Essential Job Functions
- Assist with training new staff as needed.
- Perform other duties as required.
Qualifications/Basic Job Requirements

- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Valid Driver’s License preferred.
- Must have no prior felony or misdemeanor convictions.
- Must successfully pass a data security certification and background investigation (including fingerprinting).
- Must be able to walk and remain standing for long periods of time, (7-12 hours per day.)
- Ability to maintain a professional appearance at all times and adhere to the City uniform policy.
- Ability to hold and operate two-way radio and/or cell phone required.
- Ability to work in all weather conditions, required.
- Ability to work evenings, overnight, holidays and weekends, required.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally, required and in writing, preferred.
- Regular attendance is necessary and is essential to meeting the expectations of the job functions.
- Ability to understand and comply with City standards, safety rules and personnel policies, required.
- Ability to interact with co-workers and public in a professional and courteous manner, required.
- Ability to deal with stressful and confrontational customers in a professional manner, required.
