Teacher of the Visually Impaired for the 2024-2025 school year

POSITION TITLE: Teacher

F.L.S.A. Exempt

QUALIFICATIONS: Must hold proper certification according to the state of Missouri.

REPORTS TO: Director of Special Services

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: New teachers 190 days; returning teachers 186 days with benefits provided according to the Park Hill School District and Park Hill National Education Association Agreement.

JOB GOAL: To provide instruction in an appropriate setting in accordance with the Individual Education Plan (IEP) to meet the needs of students. The (TVI) is to provide consultative special education services specific to vision loss. The (TVI) also provides direct support to students, teachers, parents, and acts as a liaison with community services.

Key Functions

  • Shows ability to develop and implement an Individual Education Plan (IEP).
  • Employs a variety of effective instructional strategies consistent with lesson objectives.
  • Diagnoses and evaluates student abilities and progress in a timely and consistent manner.
  • Monitors student progress and adjusts instruction accordingly.
  • Plans a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students.
  • Ability to assess levels of student achievement effectively, analyze test results, and prescribe actions for improvement. Interprets medical results for eligibility determination.
  • Assesses the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required.
  • Knowledge of laws, policies, and procedures relating to the education of students with handicapping conditions and the adaptive devices, techniques, therapies, and medical procedures which are relevant in the field.
  • Ability to maintain appropriate supervision of students and maintain a safe and orderly learning environment.

  • Abides by Missouri statutes, school board policies and regulations.
  • Attends meetings and performs duties as assigned by administrators or supervisors.
  • Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy and administrative regulation.
