Summary This position is located in the Department of Health & Human Services (HHS), Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), Center for Program Integrity (CPI), Data Analytics & Systems Group (DASG), Division of Modeling & Analytics (DMA). As a Data Scientist, GS-1560-14, you will be responsible for using analytical tools and technical information over a broad range of programs that support the CPI. Responsibilities Work with leadership to create a plan to increase the advanced analytics, data science, and programming skills across the CPI analytics community. Articulate and implement best practices for data usage and analytic techniques. Use rigorous experimentation and rapid prototyping to develop new techniques and novel applications of trusted techniques to tough analytic problems Establish and maintain relationships with academic programs and other organizations dedicated to advancing analytics, ML, and AI. Serve as part of an enterprise-wide team to promote the use and understanding of advanced analytics. In order to qualify for the GS-14, you must meet the following: You must demonstrate in your resume at least one year (52 weeks) of qualifying specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 grade level in the Federal government, obtained in either the private or public sector, to include: Executing, leading, or controlling projects to develop statistical models for data analysis or devise innovative analytic solutions to program integrity related issues; AND Designing, implementing, or evaluating machine learning and other artificial intelligence tools to extract insights from unstructured and multidimensional data; AND Presenting clear and concise findings to a wide variety of audiences using data visualization tools, programming languages, or software applications to support evidence-based recommendations. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Time-in-Grade: To be eligible, current Federal employees must have served at least 52 weeks (one year) at the next lower grade level from the position/grade level(s) to which they are applying. Education Education Requirement: In addition to meeting the qualification requirements, all candidates must have the following educational requirements: Degree: Mathematics, statistics, computer science, data science or field directly related to the position. The degree must be in a major field of study (at least at the baccalaureate level) that is appropriate for the position.
