Note: This position is under the Laborers International Union No, 720. Applicant will be required to join Union Local.

Position Summary

This position involves assisting the Metro Asphalt and Paving Project Managers and Estimating Staff with various tasks and duties. These duties include but are not limited to:

  • Set and reset no parking signs
  • Place, maintain and remove storm water protection devices
  • Hand out notices or door hangers to residences and office buildings
  • Build asphalt ramps for utilities or milled surface joints
  • Power washing
  • Assist Project Manager with site supervision and crew start ups
  • Project site clean up
  • Asphalt ticket taking
  • Occasional assistance with placement and moving of various traffic control devices
  • Other various manual tasks including, but not limited to, the following: shoveling; sweeping; lifting, pushing and pulling various objects

Responsibilities

  • Must become a member of the local Labor Union
  • Ensures a safe work environment in compliance with all safety policies and procedures using the appropriate tools and equipment for the task
  • Performs a variety of tasks which can involve strenuous manual labor
  • Construction related duties as required

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

  • Must be safety-oriented and exhibit safe work habits
  • Self-motivated and eager to learn new skills
  • Perform well in a β€œTEAM” environment
  • Ability to meet attendance schedule with dependability and consistency
  • Willing to work hours that are associated to the asphalt industry, including overtime and weekends as needed
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instruction
  • Basic mathematical skills
  • Valid driver license is required
  • Pass a pre-employment physical and drug screen

Minimum Education And Experience

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Some construction experience preferred but not required

Physical Requirements & Conditions

  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and tolerate being exposed to loud noise
  • Ability to lift 75 pounds
  • Must be able to perform physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of material

Compensation

We are excited to share the base hourly rate for this position is $23.59+. Membership with the Laborers International Union No, 720 is required upon hire. Condition and terms of employment and benefits are in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement.
