Position Summary

Provide facility management services to academic and administrative departments located in assigned buildings. Oversee facility operations on a day-to-day basis. Manage and maintain a clean and safe environment, and respond to the needs of faculty, staff, and students. - Salary Grade 6

Responsibilities

Facility Management

  • Manage general facility operations in assigned buildings on a day-to-day basis. Coordinate with engineering, housekeeping, AV, facilities services, and outside contractors to address facilities needs and improvements.
  • Provide quality customer service through staffing the IRFM Helpline. Receive calls and ensure that questions/concerns are responded to in an efficient, courteous, and timely manner.
  • Provide basic maintenance and troubleshooting for classroom AV resources. Collaborate with SAIC’s AV staff to address advanced problems.
  • Manage work orders related to classroom and offices including supply needs, cleaning, maintenance and repair, moving, event setup, furniture, and audiovisual.
  • Manage the creation, installation, maintenance, and repair of wayfinding and other communication signage (safety, construction, etc).
  • Work closely with supervisors and project managers to coordinate and prepare for large-scale construction projects.

Resource, Inventory, and Service Management

  • Manage inventory of classroom and facilities resources. Coordinate the installation, maintenance, and supply of both new and existing furniture resources in offices and classrooms.
  • Manage sustainable waste programs such as e-cycling, composting, and surplus collection within assigned buildings.
  • Manage and oversee classroom and locker cleanouts during and after each semester. Work closely with departments to manage the Bag & Tag program, locker checks, and locker cleanouts.

Student Employment & Training

  • Supervise a staff of 8-10 student employees each semester. Manage the hiring, scheduling, and termination of student employee staff.
  • Provide training and leadership to student employees in the delivery of all services and resources.
  • Identify and develop individual skills, and learning outcomes for each employee. Help prepare student employees for life after graduation.
  • Collaborate with Facilities Services colleagues to develop and deliver policies, training materials, and procedures such as the student employment handbook, student employee orientation, etc.

Budget & Facilities Planning

  • Work with IRFM leadership to provide recommendations for the development of projects. Participate in discussions and conduct surveys for future budget planning.

Health & Safety

  • Work with Environmental Health and Safety regarding the proper management of hazardous materials.
  • Perform classroom and graduate studio inspections to ensure safety and regulation compliance.
  • Teach and enforce safe practices regarding tools, materials, room use, art-making and installation, and moving and storing of equipment and furniture.

Exhibition Support

  • Work with faculty and staff to provide logistical support for special academic projects, exhibition symposia, admission events, and outreach programs (Senior Expo, Artbash, Homan Square, Creativets, Continuing Studies, etc).
  • Work closely with Exhibitions to support growing on-campus exhibitions in non-traditional gallery settings.
  • Respond to and facilitate requests for art handling and installation in offices and public spaces. Provide initial consult services/recommendations and coordinate installation.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • At least 2 years supervisory experience in classroom, facilities and/or academic support services in higher education.
  • Must have strong mechanical skills including basic carpentry and power tools.
  • Experience operating with classroom technology such as video projectors, computers, and media playback devices.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Experience with office software including Word, Excel, and Adobe Creative Suite.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift 50 lbs.
  • Ability to complete a respirator certification.
