This position exists to provides administrative assistance to the Religious Resource Center, Offender Assignment, and Volunteer Assistance.

Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Data entry in COMS and to assist the OAS Senior with data entry task
  • Communications and document distribution
  • Attend weekly meeting and record information
  • Answer offender kites, post job openings, and process job applications
  • Backup to the Mail room and Activities director
  • Provide clerical support to the Facility Incompatibility Committee

Minimum Qualifications

To be qualified for and considered for this position, applicants must meet all of the minimum qualifications listed below. Ensure that your resume contains descriptions of your work experiences sufficient for comparison against the requirements stated below and indicate the beginning and ending month and year for each job held.

  • Customer service skills sufficient to provide prompt, courteous and accurate information on the phone, through email and other written correspondence.
  • Language skills (reading, writing and speaking) sufficient to read, explain and interpret a variety of documents, policies and procedures, and compose and edit correspondence and reports using proper grammar, punctuation, and spelling.
  • Typing/keyboarding skills sufficient to type correspondence, documents and forms into the proper format with speed and accuracy.
  • Database management skills sufficient to query information from computer logs and systems (such as COMS) and accurately enter, retrieve and interpret the information
  • Data entry performance sufficient to update DOC-specific databases, gather and report on data using Microsoft Excel and COMS
  • Word processing skills (preferably with Microsoft Word) sufficient to prepare memos and letters that are grammatically correct, in proper format, and free of spelling errors

Preferred Qualifications

The following qualifications are strongly desired of applicants seeking consideration for this position:

  • Experience working in a correctional setting
  • Experience or training in the use of the following Microsoft Office applications: Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • BCA certification and experience conducting background checks.
  • Experience working in an office/clerical setting.
  • Knowledge of data privacy and the Minnesota Data Practices Act.
  • Proven ability to maintain confidentiality of data and information.
  • Ability to exhibit professionalism, courtesy and tact

Physical Requirements

Additional Requirements

The selection process may include screening the top candidate(s) on their criminal history, predatory offender registration, offender associations and/or other applicable background information in accordance with Department of Corrections’ policy. Top candidate(s) must pass a criminal history check which includes successful completion of all sentencing and/or restitution requirements of law enforcement jurisdictions, including probation.

Employment history/reference checks, including incidents of sexual harassment, will also be conducted on the top candidate(s) in accordance with Department of Corrections’ policy. This may include a review of job performance and discipline records.

New employees will be fingerprinted within the first 30 days of employment.
