Duties

As an Electrician, WG-2805-10, your typical work assignments may include the following:

  • Inspect, maintain, repair and test electrical motors, buzzer and bell circuits, light sockets, lighting fixtures, fire alarm systems, electronic score boards, electronic wheelchair lifts, intercom systems, appliances and/or equipment.
  • Insert, splice, and connect wires to fixtures, outlets, switches, receptacles and power sources.
  • Repair broken or frayed wiring and repairs and/or replaces switches, plugs, fuses, fluorescent and incandescent lamps and makes tests required to assure satisfactory results.
  • Follow maintenance and inspection schedules; perform maintenance services, diagnose system malfunctions and make necessary repairs.

WORKING CONDITIONS: The work is performed both inside and outside. Electrical workers are sometimes required to make repairs and installations in bad weather; in work areas that are noisy, dirty, dusty, and greasy; on scaffolding or cranes at heights of 9 meters (30 feet) or more; and in close quarters such as manholes, attics, or aboard ships. They are occasionally exposed to the possibility of injury from falling, electrical shock, burns, and rotary devices such as electrical motors. They are frequently exposed to the possibility of cuts and bruises.

OTHER SIGNIFICANT FACTS: The position is required to operate a government-owned or leased motor vehicle in the performance of duties. Travel involves transit via airplane and motor vehicle.The position may be required to work other than normal hours as necessary to handle emergency situations or peak workloads.
