Help Duties

As a MOTOR VEHICLE OPERATOR, WG-5703-8, this job is located in an ARNG/ANG National Guard organization. Its purpose is to operate and perform operator maintenance on one or more motor vehicles to transport personnel, supplies, materials or equipment.

  • Operates primarily straight-in-line trucks which typically have an approximate gross vehicle weight (GVW) of more than 32,000 pounds and/or truck tractors with semitrailers or full trailers to transport personnel or pick up and deliver supplies, materials or equipment. Incumbent couples and uncouples the truck tractor and semitrailer or truck and trailer, and connects and disconnects the air brakes and electrical lines. Incumbent maneuvers vehicles within close tolerances when driving and backing over uneven ground, in narrow or congested areas, between buildings and other vehicles, between parked aircraft and when positioning vehicles at loading docks. Driver operates vehicles on interstate highways, winding roads, and steep grades and manipulates the dual braking system to prevent the semitrailer or trailer from jackknifing. Assures cargo is properly loaded, distributed and secured. Performs operator maintenance on vehicles.
  • Ensures shipping and accounting documents are with the shipment and reflect actual condition, quantities and type of material. Completes log books, maintenance records, reports and other transportation documents for accurate accounting. May identify, inspect, and segregate equipment or material as it is received for obvious damage and needed repairs.
  • May perform warehouse work to include issuing receiving and inventorying equipment, supplies and materials; loading and unloading of trucks; storing and pulling warehouse stock; packing and unpacking material; and repairing or replacing items on equipment. May select storehouse locations within the general warehousing plan. Operates electric, gasoline or diesel-powered forklift trucks.
  • May perform a variety of extensive servicing and light maintenance work on assigned vehicles. May assist in dispatching vehicles or in the issuance of forms, credit cards or military driver's licenses.

Requirements Conditions of Employment

  • National Guard Membership is required.
  • Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.
  • U.S. citizenship is required.

  • Military Rank/Grade Requirement: Minimum Rank AB/E-2 to Maximum Rank TSgt/E-6
  • Compatible Military AFSC Requirement: 2T1X1
  • Cross training opportunity - Applicants who do not possess the compatible AFSC will still be considered but must meet Specialized experience qualifications listed below. Must attend technical school for award of the AFSC within 12 months of hire.
  • Applicants outside of the ORANG must submit documents showing award of AFSC such as a tech school certificate, Data Brief, vMPF rip, and/or DD214.

Qualifications

Areas of Consideration:

Area 1 - Current permanent and indefinite T32 technicians of the Oregon ANG.

Area 2 - Current permanent and indefinite T5 employees of the Oregon ANG.

Area 3 - Current service members in the Oregon ANG.

Area 4 - Individuals in the active duty US Air Force, Air Force Reserve, or Air National Guard.

Area 5 - US Citizens eligible to meet the military requirements for membership in the Oregon ANG.

GENERAL And SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Work involved in the operation and operational maintenance of one or more motor vehicles to transport personnel, supplies, materials or equipment. Experience or training which demonstrates the ability to follow instructions and safely operate the type of equipment required to accomplish the duties of the position.

WG-08 - 12 Months experience or training which demonstrates the ability to operate and perform operator maintenance on straight-in-line trucks which typically have an approximate gross vehicle weight of more than 32,000 pounds. Experience demonstrating ability to operate truck tractors with semi-trailers or full trailers and motor coaches. Experience operating vehicles over a variety of roads including interstate highways, narrow country roads, and on steep winding grades. Experience driving vehicles without mishap in complicated traffic situations.
