Maintenance Worker 3 - $68,952.00 - $77,646.40 Annually ($33.15 - $37.33 Hourly), depending on qualifications

The Role
As a Maintenance Worker, you will perform manual labor and operate equipment in the maintenance, repair, and construction of the City’s Public Works systems and facilities. Assigned divisions may include, but are not limited to, Wastewater Treatment, Wastewater Collections, Water Treatment, Water Distribution, Storm Water, Streets, Reuse, Irrigation, and Fleet/Equipment Rental.
The ideal candidate for this role will have two (2) or three (3) years of maintenance experience, depending on position level, proficiency with tools and equipment, and the ability to foster a culture based on integrity and respect. You will collaborate with public works teams to ensure efficient operations and maintenance of City infrastructure. A background check, driving record and drug screen are required upon acceptance of a conditional offer.
Primary Responsibilities
- Perform maintenance, construction, and repair of City streets, sidewalks, waterlines, sewer-lines, facilities, systems, and equipment.
- Operate a variety of equipment based on assignment, such as front-end loaders, dump trucks, flatbed trucks, snowplows, street sweepers, vactor trucks, and jet trucks.
- Utilize backhoes, road graders, and other machinery to install, maintain, clean, grade, and repair roadways, bridges, alleys, sidewalks, and water/sewer services.
- Remove and repair damaged roadways and sidewalk areas; prepare streets for overlays, slurry seals, pothole patching, paving, and sweeping.
- Repair, replace, or install street name or traffic signs and traffic/pedestrian lights; perform minor maintenance on traffic control devices.
- Operate striping equipment for street markings such as centerlines and crosswalks.
- Inspect and evaluate sewer mainlines using CCTV inspection equipment.
- Install, maintain, and repair storm drains, catch basins, hydrants, manholes, and water mainlines.
- Locate and close valves for repairs; operate tapping machines to tap water mainlines under pressure and install services.
- Install and repair water meters and meter boxes.
- Monitor operations, set operating parameters, diagnose problems, and perform associated tests.
- Maintain accurate records and use computer-based instrumentation and control systems.
- Operate, monitor, and maintain pumps, valves, aeration equipment, and other relevant equipment.
- Use a variety of hand and power-operated tools such as shovels, picks, saws, drills, jackhammers, and compressors.
- Maintain and clean equipment.
- Participate in a 24-hour call-back rotation for emergency conditions.
- Respond to public inquiries in a courteous manner and provide information within the scope of knowledge.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: (Any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the job.)
- High school diploma or G.E.D.
- Maintenance Worker 2: Two (2) years of experience in manual labor, maintenance, minor repairs, and light/heavy equipment operation.
- Maintenance Worker 3: Three (3) years of experience in manual labor, maintenance, minor repairs, and light/heavy equipment operation; demonstrated proficiency with tools and equipment in a maintenance or construction environment.
Licenses, Certifications, And Other Requirements
Maintenance Worker 1:
- Must have at least six (6) months of experience performing manual labor, maintenance, minor repairs, light and heavy equipment operation, and the training necessary to perform the assigned functions in the assigned division(s)
Maintenance Worker 2
- Must have at least two (2) years of experience performing manual labor, maintenance, minor repairs, light and heavy equipment operation, and the training necessary to perform the assigned functions in the assigned division(s).
Maintenance Worker 3
- Must obtain a valid Washington State driver’s license with a Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with Tanker endorsement upon hire.
- Must obtain a Washington State Flagger Certification during employment.
- Must obtain a current First Aid/CPR Certification during employment.
Working Conditions
- Outdoor work with exposure to all weather and traffic conditions.
- Exposure to noise, fumes, odors, toxic gases, chemicals, dust, dirt, open manholes, moving equipment, and mechanical hazards.
- Heavy physical effort, including lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling items weighing at least fifty (50) pounds.
- Frequent bending, stooping, climbing, crouching, kneeling, squatting, and reaching above shoulder height.
- Working in confined spaces with necessary safety equipment.
- Protective clothing/equipment, including safety shoes, required for all hours worked.
