CASA has a sister organization, CASA in Action, a separate, but related, nonprofit organization that is exempt from federal income tax under section 501(c)(4) of the Internal Revenue Code. Although CASA and CASA in Action share a common goal of supporting immigrants and low-income people in Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Georgia, they are separate organizations with their own board of directors. A set of employees at the two organizations, including the person filling this position, shares their time between the two organizations. This has no effect on salary or benefits.

Department Synopsis

Our Virginia Services Team provides top-notch services programming to CASA and CASA in Action Virginia members in the areas of adult ESOL and vocational training, after school programming for immigrant youth, health and human services, citizenship and immigration consultations, access to government programs including the Virginia Driver Privilege Card. Our Services team works in tight coordination with our policy and communications and organizing staff to change the systems that impact our lives.

Position Summary

The Immigrant Integration Coordinator is responsible for coordinating CASA in Virginia’s based AmeriCorps Program, Moving Forward NOVA, which includes financial education, citizenship instruction and assistance, legal navigation and tax services.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the Moving Forward NOVA - AmeriCorps program, provide day-to-day support to AmeriCorps members to ensure they are providing the required services to CASA members.
  • The supervision of AmeriCorps members duties is directly performed by the Immigrant Integration Manager. The Immigrant Integration Coordinator supports those supervision duties without performing direct supervision to AmeriCorps members.
  • Sign AmeriCorps timesheets in OnCorps (or the system authorized by the grantor.) The Coordinator will use the software role pre-identified as “Site Supervisor”
  • Liaise with partner organizations to ensure administrative compliance of AmeriCorps members serving in their sites
  • Collect data for bi-weekly statistics/reports that need to be provided to Immigrant Integration Manager
  • Conduct citizenship, financial literacy and tax related services in person outreach to media outlets, small businesses, schools, local governments, faith based communities, labor unions, etc.
  • Serve as a liaison between the AmeriCorps immigration team and legal team
  • Coordinate internal and external referrals to members
  • Facilitate legal, financial literacy and tax trainings for AmeriCorps on relevant navigation services they will be providing
  • Provide volunteers and AmeriCorps members guidance at project related events
  • Conduct quality control and review of citizenship application, and other legal forms completed by AmeriCorps members
  • Develop volunteer opportunities, recruit, and train volunteers as well as pro-bono attorneys to support daily tasks and citizenship clinic events or other related activities
  • Coordinate with legal department to ensure CASA members receive quality services
  • Maintain program information system and conduct quality check audits
  • Ensure financial literacy surveys and performance measurements are digitally & physically archived and review for accuracy, completeness, and quality control
  • Coordinate activities with team members in charge of financial education and coaching to ensure program cohesion
  • Collaborate with other CASA departments and programs to ensure that community members are afforded an opportunity to build the power of the immigrant community. In particular, CASA expects services and organizing to be delivered in an integrated way.

  • Provide working class, immigrant, and limited English proficiency residents of Northern Virginia with tax service information in Spanish, and English via community outreach, social media, and community partners.
  • Become a VITA Site Coordinator, getting all required IRS certifications, and run the Site in collaboration with the Immigrant Integration Manager"
  • Collect community member stories and provide direct service delivery
  • Assist CASA with collecting demographic data of clients who complete an intake form for tax pre-screening and referral services.
  • Participation in CASA actions, mobilizations and events as needed and required
  • Provide quality customer service, interactions and responses to all members, partner organizations, vendors, visitors, callers and any other individual or organization you may encounter in your role with CASA.

Education/Certifications/Licensure

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Record of having previously obtained Board of Immigration Appeals (BIA) accreditation or commitment to achieve BIA accreditation with CASA within the first 6 (six) months of service.
  • Valid US driver’s license and a reliable vehicle

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities Required

  • At least 1 year of experience as an administrative assistant, immigration paperwork and/or tax services.
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English (or other relevant language), demonstrated written and verbal skills.
  • Successfully passed required state(s) and federal background checks, including NSOPW.
  • Pursue and obtain DOJ representative certification within the year working on this position.
  • Pursue and obtain annual IRS’s VITA Site Coordinator certificates (advanced level)
  • Ability to maintain a database and high comfort level with computer programs, including Microsoft Word and Excel, Google Docs, Google Sheets, and willingness to learn other needed computer programs.
  • Demonstrated understanding of financial education, immigration legal services, naturalization process and tax filings
  • Deep commitment to social change and to growing CASA as a membership organization in which members have decision-making authority.
  • Strong interpersonal communication, conflict resolution and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Highly organized and able to lead multiple ongoing projects.
  • Ability to be very detail oriented and disciplined with documentation processes.
  • Demonstrated success in project coordination.
  • Demonstrated success and passion in working with low-income children, and the immigrant population with limited formal education.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends
  • Tasks may require commuting to the different sites where the Immigrant Integration Program delivers services, including but not limited to Maryland, Virginia and Pennsylvania.
