DEPARTMENT: POLICE

LOCATION: 600 SW ADAMS STREET, PEORIA, ILLINOIS

HOURS: 8:00am- 5:00pm

Provides assistance by relieving commissioned police personnel of clerical related activities. Assists the general public by providing clear and concise explanations regarding police policies and procedures; answer questions regarding City ordinances, criminal laws and procedures and state vehicle codes; answers telephone calls and responds to citizens, provides directions and makes referrals to proper agencies or person. Provides the first line of security for the building; controls access in and out of the police department, records name and arrival/departure times for all visitors allowed entry.

EMPLOYEE’SMUST RESIDE WITHIN THE CITY OF PEORIA. AN EMPLOYEE’S UNAUTHORIZED RESIDENCY OUTSIDE THE CITY OF PEORIA SHALL BE GROUNDS FOR IMMEDIATE TERMINATION.

Examples of Duties

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: (All responsibilities may not be performed by all incumbents.)

¨ Completes police incident reports including conducting informal interviews of citizens filing police reports.

¨ Assists the general public by providing clear and concise explanations regarding police policies and procedures; answer questions regarding City ordinances, criminal laws and procedures and state vehicle codes; answers telephone calls and responds to citizens, provides directions and makes referrals to proper agencies or persons.

¨ Provides clerical services in the registering of firearms and bicycles, and providing release forms to citizens who have had vehicles towed; issues temporary licenses as required; enters registration information into computer system.

¨ Answers the overflow of emergency and non-emergency telephone calls by citizens requesting police assistance.

¨ Answers crime stopper telephone and takes information as required.

¨ Serves as general switchboard operator when other department staff are absent.

¨ Provides the first line of security for the building; controls access in and out of the police department, records name and arrival/departure times for all visitors allowed entry.

¨ Processes police reports, checks for accuracy, codes, time stamps, copies and distributes to various departments and agencies as required.

¨ Enters data into computer system from supplemental police reports, tow entry, and vehicle entry.

¨ Receives property turned into the police department including found property, evidence or property for destruction.

¨ Performs records checks for various departments and police agencies including checking criminal backgrounds, fingerprint classifications and mugshots.

¨ Receives and records all moving violation warning tickets.

¨ Records all city arrests by logging name of offender, arrest report number, date of birth, offense(s) and arresting officer(s).

¨ Organizes and documents daily arrests from PPD, Peoria Park District and Bradley University.

¨ Researches accuracy of arrest specifications with county jail.

¨ Testifies in court as required.

¨ Performs warrant checks on individuals who come into the office.

¨ Notifies emergency personnel regarding the health problems of individuals who come into the office.

¨ Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED; one to two years progressively responsible experience; minimum typing speed of 45 wpm required. Any equivalent combination of education, training and experience, which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job considered.

PENSION PROGRAM: Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF): Ten years required for vesting. IMRF Death Benefit – Annual Salary after 1 year's service. IMRF Disability Benefit – 50% of Salary up to 30 months after 1 year's service.

6 to 15 Years of Service - 2 Weeks and 1 additional day for every year of service

15 Years and Up - 4 Weeks Paid Vacation



SICK LEAVE: 6.67 hours per month earned. No limit on total days accumulated.

PERSONAL LEAVE: Earn 2.67 hours per month.

HOLIDAYS: 10 Paid Holidays per year.

Members may opt out of the City's insurance program with proof of other coverage – coverage for dependents is optional. The City of Peoria Health Insurance offers two (2) plan options for coverage. Bi-weekly premiums for AFSCME employees depend on which plan is selected. On your hire date, you will meet with City's Patient Advocate to receive detailed information on the plans and the appropriate premium cost. Depending on plan selection, you can enroll in the Flexible Spending Program (FSA) or Health Savings Account (HSA).

RESIDENCY: An employee hired on or after January 1, 2023, must reside within the City of Peoria. An employee's unauthorized residency outside the City of Peoria shall be grounds for immediate termination.
