$16.78 to $39.11 Hourly DOE

Job Summary

The Sr. Construction Technician is responsible for initiating and building customer relationships, while providing technical solutions through our products and services. As brand ambassadors of Ziply Fiber within our communities, this position will bring excellent customers service and technical expertise to resolve telecommunication issues.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The Essential Duties and Responsibilities listed below are a range of duties performed by the employee and not intended to reflect all duties performed.

  • Utilize test equipment to install products and isolate trouble effectively.
  • Support, install, and repair company products by providing Ziply Fiber services.
  • Install and maintain inside wiring for residential/business broadband (HSI/Video) service.
  • Install Central Office and B-box junctions as required for broadband continuity, digital subscriber carriers and associated broadband equipment, such as DSLAMS (Digital subscriber line access multiplexer), Residential Gateways and HSI (High-Speed Interface) business class routers.
  • Install wireless home networking equipment; will include FTTH (Fiber to the House).
  • Use and understand automated Dispatch equipment (i.e. hand held terminals), read and understand broadband service orders and trouble tickets, and the use of appropriate broadband test equipment.
  • Effectively use preventive maintenance program by rebuilding aerial/buried/underground cables.
  • Effectively use Ziply Fiberā€™s internal programs and dispatch program to complete assignments.
  • Navigate web, set up Business/Residential computer(s) and demonstrate applications to customers.
  • Read and interpret Outside Plant drawings.


Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactory. The individual in this position must possess the following qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience with Fiber Optic construction and maintenance, transmission/noise isolation, sealed plant repair and/or operation of all types of heavy equipment.
  • Five (5) years of experience in telecommunications installation and maintenance is preferred.
  • Additional equipment certification/licensing/experience is preferred (i.e., Nortel, DMS10, Adtran,
  • AFC/Tellabs, Calix, Go Digital, Acetelis, Pair Gain, Multiplexers, Seiscor/Pulsecom S24DU/COT, Fiber, Optics, etc.)
  • Demonstrated knowledge of all types of splicing activity, cable and safety test equipment and/or use of all types of cable construction equipment
  • Basic AC/DC Theory
  • Good safety record
  • Knowledge in First Aid & CPR
  • Must possess and maintain a valid state approved driverā€™s license for required vehicle(s) and satisfactory driving record.
  • This position may require the possession of a valid CDL driverā€™s license.

  • Ability to operate equipment to perform the essential functions of the job (i.e. various splicing tools, test equipment, telephone, computer/laptop, company vehicle, backhoe, cable plow, megger, ohmmeter, pusher, 3M modular splicing unit, locator, DAVAR test equipment, line truck, semi-truck, trailers, CSU and/or aerial devices, various hand/power, splicing and testing tools, shovel and rake, transmission, noise and isolation equipment, attenuation test sets, OTDR, fusion splicing and mechanical fiber splicing tools).
  • Simple and complex mathematic skills.
  • Ability to be unaffected by flashing lights and strobes.
  • Ability to maintain a professional manner and appearance at all times.
  • Ability to drive on behalf of the company in a safe and responsible manner.


Physical Requirements

Sr. Construction Technician work involves driving a motor vehicle approximately 10% of the time and must be able to regularly and safely perform all functions of operating a motor vehicle. Essential and marginal functions may require maintaining the physical condition necessary to frequently stand, walk, climb, or sit for prolonged periods of time and regularly position oneself (e.g. bend, twist, reach, grasp, push, pull) and/or handle, lift, and carry objects over 50 lbs. frequently.

Work Environment

The Sr. Construction Technician will frequently work in extreme temperatures and heights over 15 feet. They will occasionally work in confined spaces (i.e. attics, crawl spaces, manholes, trenches), and moderate to high noise levels. Except where appropriate and conducive to accomplishing the goals and objectives of a particular task (such as in an emergency situation) the Sr Construction Technician will work in a well-lighted area that is ventilated and is as physically and psychologically innocuous as possible under the conditions which exist at a particular time.
